Default K&N Typhoon

Hey, I bought the typhoon, and have a question about the bolt that holds the scoop on. I have an 06, and the bolt that come with the intake just goes completely through the tow hook area. There is no way to bolt it to anything. Am I just reading the instructions wrong, or is this how it is?

Thanks.

You are correct: installing the scoop negates the use of the tow hook. There is a work around for racing. Remove the K&N bolt. Install tow hook. Put a nut on the back of the tow hook threads.

i had the same issue with the bolt going right through (the head isnt wide enough or the thread long enough), but i thought this was just an Aus spec thing

i just went to our local Bunnings with bolt in hand and bought a few larger sizes, and used a nut on the back of the thread

but i cant use the tow hook now

i hope the Nismo JDM bumper ive ordered has a similar opening for the two hook for an easy install

Maybe I misread the posts. The bolt supplied with the scoop goes through the back of the scoop. All you need is a couple of threads into the tow hook receptacle to hold the scoop in place.

on my 05 Aus spec Anniversary the bolt thread was at least 3/4 the size of the thread in the tow hook. The whole bolt went through the two hook, head and all

yeah, the bolt goes all the way through the tow hook. I can slide it thrgough without it even touching any of the threads of the tow hook.

Interesting. Contact K&N and ask that they ship a bolt which fits properly. Or go to a hardware store a buy the correct bolt.

I don't have the K&N kit, but fwiw I know the tow hook bolt hole is larger on '06 than previous years. I ordered the Stillen plate holder that uses the same mounting method and had to specify size. I'm not quite sure what the new size was, but 23mm vs 18 or 19mm from previous years is what I am thinking.

You can go to the hardware store and get a larger bolt, widen the hole a little on the bracket of the scoop, and thread it in from the backside, all you would need is a few threads to hold it in place. This way, you can still use the tow hook inthe front. This is what I did back in the day when I had this kit installed on my car.
