Default hood problems with the motordyne spacer

I was reading some other threads and people were complaining that they had problems with their hoods not sitting right after installing the spacer. Is this common, b/c if it is I dont want one.

There should be no problems with the 5/16" MD spacer. I have the 1/2" AAM spacer and it's just at the limit of what will fit under the strut bar and hood.

you shouldn't have any problem if you have OEM hood. they also included the spacer for your OEM strut bar. Don't worry.

Fitting the 5/16 inch spacer is tight. Remember that you raise the strut brace with spacers, moving the brace closer to the hood. As a guess, 90 percent of the fits are problem free. Every engine - brace - hood is a bit different, so maybe 1 in 10 will have fit problems.

Correction: Every engine - brace - hood is a bit different, so maybe 1 in 1,000 will have fit problems.

This comes up so rarely my guess is it is much lower than 1 in 10, maybe closer to 1 in 1000 and so far the issues I have seen on the boards have been aftermarket hoods or not adjusting the strut bar after it's all back together. From what I know of Motordyne Engineering, if there is an issue, they will help you though it, they're support is top notch.

I had a problem when I installed the 5/16th spacer and 2 thermal gaskets beneath the lower plenum. When I raised the bar high enough to not rub the plenum it caused the hood to bulge slightly. Basically the hood was a little higher than the quarter panels. It wasn't a big deal but people like me with O.C.D. will be bothered by it.

I removed the 2 gaskets and installed a new single gasket instead. That allowed me to lower the strut bar just enough to allow the hood to close almost perfectly flush with the quarter panels. It still sits slightly higher but it is barely noticeable unless your looking for it. Even then it is barely noticeable. I think the plenum may still be rubbing the STB every once and awhile so I may have to raise the bar just a smidge more. Although, it could just be my O.C.D. acting up...

DaytonaZ9,

I would also like to add that we have a full satisfaction guarantee. If for any reason you don't like the fitment it can be returned for a full refund. No questions asked.

I am one of the few that had hood fitment issues. I also have an early model 350Z.....it's # 1,132.....so yeah, pretty early.

My car has the 8mm strut tower bolts, so their 10mm bolts didn't work as well. But even if the bolts were the right size, the hood didn't shut all the way with the strut tower bar spacers.

I used my stock strut tower bar bolts and two layers of washers instead of their strut tower bar spacers. I also removed the two little black rubber cushions from the bottom of the hood that sit on top of the strut tower bar. No problems whatsoever...every thing clears now, and the hood shuts just fine.
