Clean it every 30k miles or whenever it looks so nasty you can't stand it anymore. Some people clean it every 5k miles; doesn't really matter, just gotta be sure you don't over-oil the filter. Go to Autozone and pick up the cleaning/re-oiling kit (K&N brand) and follow the directions. I ussually let the filter sit wrapped in newspaper overnight, after oiling, to soak up any excess before re-installing.

First, here are some threads about cleaning and re-oiling.

To answer your questions...

1) I clean and re-oil every 30k or until the blue has faded to grey.

2) I use jwt oil that i bought from performance (k&n oil kit can be used but it will turn the filter pinkish)

3) using a hose to wash it from the inside of the cone filter helps. newspaper and direct sunlight to dry.

Apparently my pop charger arrived un-oiled (I was under the assumption that it came already oiled). I have driven like this since the beginning of the year (approx. 4000 miles). Have I hurt the filter in anyway? Or will I be ok if I just go ahead and oil it?

Thanks,

Ryan

Set-up a regular schedule to clean the filter, say, every second or third oil change. The filter cannot be too clean. If you spray the filter, err on the side of less: less is better than more.

I just cleaned mine last week.

I used the K&N recharge kit thingy.

Just followed the directions. Now my filter is red to match my car instead of blue I actually like it better blue but didn't feel like ordering the stuff online.

It had 8,000 on the car when I cleaned it and 6,800 on the filter. Looks like twice a year should do it for me.

Damn, I totally forgot I had a Pop Charger! I think it's way overdue for it's 1st cleaning. Runs great, I've had it for a while and can't tell the difference from new to now. I'll give her a nice cleaning this weekend.
