Does anyone know what the consequence is if your found having no/altered cats? Do they fine you and give you a fix-it ticket or what?

Ahhh, leave it to me to ressurect an old post. But uh, this very scenario happened to my friend when he got new rims on his car. The cop pulled him over for speeding and he didn't know he was. He took his car to the shop and had them do a speed test, found out that the speedometer was off by 10mph because of the rims. Cop pulled him over for doing 75 in a 55, to him it looked like he was doing 65 (which is somewhat normal speed on the beltway). Took the results to court and the judge let him off.

So uh, yeah, in that case you can claim that you didn't know.

that judge was far too nice; ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law.
