Default Help help help...intake problem

I just installed HKS Intake on my car. I took it for a test drive and the engine shut off after 4k rpm. Now, the engine can't even idle..keep stalling and I tried to start.
I realize one mistake that I made: b4 i installed the intake, i remove the positive battery connector (instead of negative), could this be the cause of the problem???
I removed the negative connector and reconnected after 5 min, problem still there.

Right now, I m letting the car have a overnight ECU reset (remove negative battery connector). Will it help?

Thanks for you help guys!!!

Did you check for air leaks? The engine will not idle correctly if there are leaks in the intake. Check all the rubber garmets and hardware. Make sure everything is nice and tight.

Sounds like an electronic issue if you ask me.

Did you mess with the mass air flow sensor? If that is dirty it can also cause a problem. Might want to check the connections to the mass air flow sensor and if its dirty, get a Qtip and clean it up a bit. Make sure the connections on both sides of the sensor are tight. Be very gentle though.

You probably have the MAF sensor housing on backwards. Happened to me when I installed my nismo. Make sure you got it on the right way. Thats most likely whats wrong.

Does the maf sensor in the 350z have arrows, telling you which direction is should point? If it does, just check the arrows.

I didn't even take off the MAF sensor housing. I only disassembled the Factory air flow meter and with HKS intake, there's only one way to connect it.

Most MAF have arrows pointing to where the air should flow. Arrow should be pointing to towards the car.

That is from past experience with other vehicles. This may be a little different.

How can MAF housing is backward if I didn't even take it off from Air Flow Meter Adapter?

Yea, I do not think it is possible to put backwards.

Did you oil the filter? If you over oil that can cause damage to the MAF sensor. They are very fragile.

If oil or any particle comes in contact with the MAF it could damage it. A MAF can be damaged with the stock intake as well.

Just a thought. You might want to throw the old intake system back on and see what happens. If the problem still occurs bring it to Nissan. Just do not mention the install of the hks.

I checked everything, no leak. Maybe in the process of the installation, dust gets into MAF sensor. How do I clean it?

Get a qtip and clean the maf sensor lightly. I wouldnt use any solutions. No liquids. Maybe some tissue and qtip.

The car doesn't stall when i put it over 4k rpm and put the gear in neutral.
The only problem right now is if i start the engine w/o stepping on the gas, engine stalls right away.

I put the stock intake back on and problem still there (engine stall when i start it w/o step on the gas). I also have Service Engine Soon light on. But if I start the engine, SES light goes off.

Anyone has any idea?

That is because your engine is not sucking in any air. If everything is connected right and the MAF is clean there is only one thing to do. Put the old stuff back on and hope that it was not your fault. Hopefully Nissan will fix the problem.

Seems like we have gone through most of the on surface questions. From here on, I think the dealer would know best.

Stock intake is back on. Service Engine Soon light is always on now. I'll bring the car to dealer tomorrow.
I guess HKS intake still good. I plan to reinstall stock HKS exhaust after the dealer fix the problem.
Why the hell I removed the freaken + battery wire instead of the -. I guess this caused the problem. I'll keep you guys update.

Anyone has any idea why SES light still on?

BTW: Sometimes it take a few days for the light to turn off. But you did the right thing by bringing to Nissan. Dont **** with it anymore

Service guy called me today. He said that the ECM throws some kinds of weird error codes that he never seen before. He contacted Nissan engineers and they also had know idea.
They reset the ECM and as soon as they start the engine, Service Engine Light is on again.
They are ordering a new ECM for my car. Could it be that the MAF sensor is bad not the ECM and they didn't know? But they are professional, they have tools to diagnose the MAF right?
I guess I just have to sit here and wait. Anyone has any idea what could go wrong?
