Philip,
How come you haven't addressed the other thread you made where I referenced a before and after dyno showing only a 1hp gain with your intake?

What about Torque? My results were different. I am very happy with my Injen mod results. I gained 3RWHP and 20 foot pounds of Torque!
I have Dyno graphs before and after at my website to back it up too!

my numbers with just a k&N: 241.7 RWHP 237.9 RWT
m
oh yeah... next saturday i will be re-dynoing to see if the injen does anything over a standard k&n...
if i remember right... after looking at your dyno graph.. there was something wrong with your first run (stock).. i think you made like 223 RWTQ.... that is about 10-15 ft-lb lower than stock should be
I added the Injen and showed those gains the baseline numbers don't matter, they are irrelevant in this scenario.
As for something being wrong with my Dyno I am quite happy with it, its very sooth, smooth as silk, especially when I look at the choppy one just posted. My car runs great and all I have done is intake and exhaust at this point. My LS1 was always choppy and it always bothered me! Smooth is good and he used 5 which shows as much problems as possible. There were none.
Some people get too caught up in Dyno numbers. That is why I prefer track times. Much better assement of your car and what each mod did.
If you go do a 14.0 at the track and then add an Injen the same day in the same temps with the same track prep and you run a 13.8 to me that is a much better test than a Dyno run.
Just my opinion, and the Nitrous goes on tomorow! Then my Torque will be waayy up there!! I will add tons of torque with this mod. Should I plan on all this disbelief if I dyno with the Zex kit too? If so I'll save my 60 bucks
because it doesn't really matter to me, I will be going to the track with the Nitrous!
To clarify (I just got home from a graveyard shift and probably sound grumpy) it was cold and rainy...)
I removed the resonator and added a FlowMaster.
I went and Dynoed.
I added the Injen and went and Dynoed.
*Nothing* else had changed.
I posted a 3RHP gain and 20 TQ.
So if the Injen took advantage of my freer flowing exhaust why is that a bad thing? It was my plan and I explained that in the original thread (I said "as I expected " IIRC.
It's a natural progression. Intake and Exhaust are 2 of the most important mods you can do! Since then I did even more exhaust stuff, and I also plan on some headers later too. (DC.)
This car has allot of potential. But my baseline is my baseline, no matter how low/high it may have been.
If I go to another city and get a higher one that is not an acurate comparision, when you mod you must remain consistant on the same Dyno whether you like the numbers or not.

2003z,
The dyno you are referring to seems like the car is having a problem with detonation or a lean air/fuel ratio. Most dyno graphs should be smooth and not choppy like the chart that was shown. Perhaps the person should switch to a higher octane gasoline and re-dyno the vehicle for more accurate numbers.

He used high octane (93), so did I, mine was choppy like that too.
I actually lost 4 hp, with injen, y-pipe and flowmaster, but since I don't know what the culprit is, I didn't include that.

IMO 3 ( or 6-7 HP) gain for over $220 is just not worth it. Maybe after someone comes out with an ECU upgrade the CAI will be worth it but I just can't see the justification of spending that much $ for such an imperceptible HP gain.
I seriously doubt that anyone can "sense" any difference in 3 HP either way when driving. I'm sure I couldn't.

If you want real world terms try this..........
We tested at Daytona back in January for our race series. We went back to back with the INJEN CAI and the factory air box equiped with K & N filter. In our series we are not allowed to run the air filter in an open strem of air...........meaning we had to move our filter location tucked up more behind the alum bumper and not right behind the mesh of the front nose.
When we ran the stock airbox our top speed into turn one of the road course was 149 MPH.
We then put the INJEN CAI and ran it with the filter tucked up behind the front bumper.................151.
On the very last test session we ran the filter right behind the mesh screen (INJENS stock location) and where able to reach 154.
Our lap times where better with the INJEN vs stock airbox.
lap times dont lie..........

That's exactly what I am talking about.
1/4 mile results before after would be interesting too.
HP numbers don't do much for me. CAI is just another mod to be used in conjuction with other mods.
3HP here, 7 there, it all adds up.
Any time you can get more cold air, fuel or spark in you will improve performance.
The same goes with getting hot exhaust out.

I would agree with Dr BonZ I doubt you could tell the dif with an extra 3-5 HP.
Does anyone know if it sounds any different, if so how...
Does it growl more, quieter, is it more "throtty" sound, etc .
