I'm tired and lazy right now. Hey at least I'm honest and didn't say the search function didn't work I'll do research later but still gonna ask anyway.

I have found that with the Nismo cat back and Pop Charger, that my Z is not as loud as I was hoping for. It sounds good putting around town and backroads, it's just not loud enough.

I mostly drive my Z on the weekends at the moment and when I first fire it up I don't even notice the differance from the stock pipe at first. It takes a few mintues of driving and shifting before I go, "oh there's that cool sound".

Are high flow Cats emission legal in CA? I imagine they are since they are cats

Can somebody give me a ballpark of what I could possibly expect out of high flow cats compaired to what it's like now, sound wise?

Test pipes are not legal I would think and from what I hear they would be louder than what I want and would void the warranty anyway.

Do high flow cats void the warranty?

I'll probably get flamed a bit but I'm cold right now anyway

 

What makes yours worth $300 more than kinetix and $100 more than Crawford?

I've read here somewhere that it's illegal to change your cats in CA unless they are damaged or worn out (past something like 50k miles) and you get an exception from whoever gives those exceptions ??? The smog police maybe. I'm in CA and I will probably do it anyway since no one really goes under the car to check during the smog inspections.

The AAM cats are metallic elements not ceramic like the others. Having said that Random Tech now offers cats with metallic elements also. I saw them on a few websites (stillen for one )

Please show us the other numbers, like in db and ft/lb and A/F and CFM or gm/s, not just in $. Also full dyno chart would be nice. Thanks

The exhaust will be more noisy.

 

I was kind of thinking about Crawford cats because most people agree that they look like a stock part and would probably not be noticed at inspection.

Other reason I'm leaning towards them, if I do end up getting cats, is supossidly they have not much if any rasp to them. I do not want a raspy note at all.

go with the crawford cats! i have had them nearly a year,they sount / perform great. i have borla duels and the sound is very deep and throaty(not ricey at all) cats will make as much differance in your sound as your exhaust did. crawford has i think a 3 year warrenty, and have factory brackets so they bolt in place properly to the frame. others do not have these and probably contribute to hedder etc cracking as the cats are just being held by the pipe alone. call crawford!!!

 

crawford no longer uses a bracket - nobody does - why - the bracket causes the cats to crack

Just installed a set of Crawford HFCs to my Borla TD exhaust in Southern Cal. I called a few places...at first they all tell me that it is illegal to switch out the cats since my car is only a few years old. However, after talking to me for a while and finding out that I am just a car enthusiast (e.g. not law enforcement), they just tell me to drop by and they will see what they could do. The install price which I was quoted ranged from $80 to $120.

I was expecting that the HFCs will increase the exhaust volume by a lot, but I was pleasantly surprised that the volume was only increased slightly at lower RPMs. Towards the redline the car definitely roars. I like it this way since I didn't want attract too much attention when just driving around town. I can definitely feel a mild performance gain. I highly recommend the mod!!!
