Post Did you have to drain the coolant on your Headers Install?

I'm putting my Strup Headers on in a couple of days and I was curious to see if I really need to buy coolant beforehand! Please let me know if you guys needed to!

Thanks,
Anthony

I didn't, but it sure was a pain in the a$$! I now understand why people charge $500 to install these SOB's. Took me a little over 8 hours and lots of skin.

Nope. Why would you drain the coolant?

A buddy of mine (who's going to install them) was looking at the service manual and it says that you need to move a coolant line in order to replace them. That's why I made this thread! To see if I need to buy coolant or not proir to the install.

Anyone else?

I installed the DC sports myself. I did not have to move any coolant lines. Took me about 5 hours on Jack Stands. Make sure you have lots of extensions. Some of the nuts are easier to get to from above the engine. And get a swival attachment.

Hope this helps

I would drain it. It's so much easier without those hard coolant lines in the way.

^ werd. I've drained them on every type of header install I've done. Never done Strup, but I have done Megan Racing, Nismo and DC.

the shop that installed STRUP header for me didn't drain the coolant. Due to the near perfect fitment of STRUP, install time around 3-4 hours only.

I guess its just prefrence then? Draining the coolant has nothing to do with the fitment of the headers. It just makes it easier to remove/reinstall the header bolts cuz the hardpipe for the coolant is in the way.

We were able to install the Strup headers on my car without draining the coolant. IIRC, the driver's side nuts may be a bit easier to get at without the lines in the way, but with the right swivel tools we didn't have to move them and we were extra careful not to break them either.

These were a life saver;

Well ... they're going in tonight and I'm going to get the coolant just to be safe.

How much should I get? I'll stop by Nissan on the way to the shop.

You shouldn't need any new coolant. Just use a clean container to drain the coolant into. Then when you are done just pour it back in the radiator. You may need some for top off but that is probably about it.
