Default Revup crawford v5 or mrev?

hey guys i have an 06 350z touring, which would be a better suited plennum upgrade for this car since they are about the same price. the mrev+ i think it is for the rev up motors or the full upper plennum the crawford v5? thanks

You have reviewed the Sport Z magazine plenum vs plenum spacer shoot-out? What do you think about the results of aftermarket upper plenums?

if you read the shoot out, more volume for the 300hp engine doesnt equal more power. Motordyne's plenum spacer net'd no gains

They discovered there is an optimal volume for an N/A engine, and the stock setup works best. Nissan cured the starving front cylinder problem on the 06 with its revised lower plenum, so you wont notice an improvement by raising the upper plenum like you do on the 287hp cars

Motordyne mrev V2 + 5/16" spacer. True it didn't net me much peak hp (2 I think, but a few more across the curve), but I gained 10 - 20 ft/lbs throughout the power curve, with the 20 right at the heart, with a nice boost in the low end. Charts are posted here somewhere. I gotta say, it was quite a noticeable gain in day to day driving.

Just my 2 cents, and of course I have not tried the Crawford.

edit to add: here you go, I'll save you the search: https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/189477-mrev2-on-revup.html

putting a 287hp lower plenum on the 300hp car just starves the engine for air past 6000rpm - which is exactly what happens on the 287hp

sure fitting a spacer helps a little, but you're putting a superceeded flawed lower plenum on your new 300hp engine which with the revisions to exhaust timing and intake was designed to make power past 6600rpm stock

i can see the gains through the low-mid range definitely, thats from the longer intake runners, so would be good for daily driving, but revving it right out to redline would be pointless and not much fun anymore

if you want to improve the low-mid range pull without killing the 300hp top end power, fit a good exhaust and some highflow cats

@ TiPIACE: I see your point, but with the combo I mentioned it is stronger until about 6.5 - 6.7k rpm. I can handle shifting a few hundred rpm below redline knowing the curve I'm shifting into is gonna snap me back in the seat a bunch more. It's all personal taste I guess, but more oomph where 95%+ of my revs occur is well worth it. To each there own though.

Agree. Sport Z tested both the Crawford and Kinetix upper plenums, and the results were disappointing. We can surmise that the OEM upper plenum is a good design. Good results were obtained by raising the upper plenum (i.e. spacer) but overall aftermarket upper plenums did little or nothing for performance.

The tests are published here. There are several threads debating the results.

Not certain but if you are considering a plenum mod, why not go with one proven by independent testing?

I wish I could find a test of the SSV on a 300hp engine. Anyone seen one? I would love to buy one and do a dyno with before and after results.

I have the Crawford plenum on my rev up engine.... and when i have bought it... doug told me about a gain of 10/12 hp at the peak...
Now, after 10.000km, i dont know if the plenum is a good mod for our engine...
however i've installed it with headers, exhaust and hi flow cats.... and so i didn't notice any difference with the stock plenum....

I've been researching for a few months now on lower plenum mods, and it seems like the Mrev1 was more popular than the Mrev2. So far, not many people have posted their dynos for the Mrev2 + 5/16 spacer on the revup and there has not been a lot of talk about it. People with the Mrev1 has posted considerable gains in the midrange with a loss of 2hp on the topend, but so far there has not been enough dynos on the Mrev2 + 5/16 spacer. Me (like many people imo) are waiting for dynos with this mod on a stock rev up. Since the Motordyne sale was about a month ago, I'm sure that there are people with this mod. Please do everyone a HUGE favor and get your car dynoed! The more the better!
