Default which is the DEEPEST sounding exhaust??

i want an exhaust with:
- the DEEPEST and MEANEST sound
- loud, but no rasp, no high pitched noise, no drone.
- no loss in low end tq or hp

i dont care much about the looks or weight. decent gains would be cool, but a nice, deep and loud note is my first priority.

i'm currently looking at:
TopSpeed Pro-1 - loving the sound from clips. any drones? how are its gains?
RSR GTII - sounds like the topspeed. how should i choose between these 2?
HKS Ti TD - heard many great things, but from clips (which i know arent all that accurate) it sounds a lil raspy? not the deep throaty roar i'm looking for.
Borla - same problem w/ HKS. and there seems to be problems w/ fitment?
Injen - like its clips, but heard there's droning? also, should i get the ti?
Stillen - good gains, but how does it sound? been hearing diff opinions.
Tanabe SRM - again, havent heard it, just been told it's loud. any comments?

which do u think i should go with? or would u recommend something else?? any help is greatly appreciated!!

I'd say no to the RSR and ToPSPEED, you'll lost tq due to the large piping on both (if you're NA)

-Borla is kinda silly with the slipfit and 34234 piece it comes with.

-HKS is soo overdone.. plus the removable TI tips look silly.. some people love it to death though... it doesn't sound anything special from the clips.. I think people are more in love with the HKS name and hype than anything else.

-Stillen is frigging heavy

-Injen is raspy, TI version is more of the same

Tanabe I'm not too sure about.

This exhaust sounds from SVRTech like it's pretty deep.. I'm waiting for a couple more soundclips before I decide to part with my money...

https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/197204-svrtech-2-5-dual-exhaust-group-buy.html (plus not everyone and their dog has one, so it'll look and sound different if that's any help)

This subject has been done to death here, and I'm surprised the usuals haven't chimed in with the 'search' sermon. IMO, a nearly stock, NA VQ35 cannot sound deeep and mean, as you stated. I have listened to dozens of clips of just about every exhaust and heard quite a few in person. Unless you go the FI route, the best sounding exhausts are the titaniums ($$$), and they are rather high pitched, but very exotic - that's the nature of this engine, small displacement, high reving. Even a 2 liter 4-banger like in the STI can sound VERY mean when pressed up to 20lbs+. One of the best sounding cars I ever heard was a built STI pushing 450 to the wheels. If you're short on money, you can still get a nice sounding exhaust, but you will have to lower your expectations or will be disappointed.

Please search before posting new threads.

Here is a list of common questions

https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/197329-the-top-100-common-questions.html

5. what exhaust sounds/looks/performs the best?
A. What do you consider "best"? Every car is different. It's like your fingerprints. Even though they all look the same, has the same engines, etc, they all have minor differences. Therefore no one can say what is "best" overall. Look at the sticky thread in the "Intakes/Exhausts" forum and listen to sound clips as well as check out some pictures to help you decide.

Q: I want to know which exhaust sounds the best. Does anyone have sound clips of Stillen, Borla, HKS, Injen... etc?A: First off, sound clips almost never do an exhaust justice. Most people lack good recording equipment, some people even record sound clips using their cell phone. Do not trust any sound clips you hear online. The BEST way to figure out which exhaust sounds the "BEST" is to hear it in person. Go to a local meet and ask nicely for people to drive you around with the windows down. Some people will rev the engine while parked to give you the idea. That is all well and good, but note that exhaust systems sound a little different while UNDER LOAD (driving around).

Q: Okay, but which exhaust system is the LOUDEST, MEANEST sounding exhaust?
A: RSR, Topspeed, or any clones of these systems.

borla if your looking for the deeper throaty sound. yes it has a million pieces, no it does not have any fittment issues. if you really hate the pieces that much, just have the muffler shop weld everything together. add test pipes or hfc's, its sounds friggin mean at wot without any of the raspy, beeebeeebeebebebeebebeeeeee, honda sound.

FWIW high flow cat's with the OEM exhaust make a measurable difference in sound and noise level. I just installed a set of Ultimate Racing HFC's and the difference is surprising. With sound clips and all the explanation about sound it really doesn't help. Hearing it in person is good but can you compare different db levels without a side by side comparison? A simple sound level meter is one way to add some mesurement to help take away some of the subjectivity (I know the way one measures the sound can also affect it but at least one has a measurement).

The Z is an 06 Roadster.

OEM at idle is 52 db and at 3,000 RPM 80 db
UR HFC's at idle is 54 db and at 3,000 RPM 88 db

Has a nice deep sound to it under load at low RPM goes to a more exotic sound at higher RPMs. WFO it is way louder than stock but I didn't measure it.

I started with the cat's thinking they were the most restricitve component in the exhaust system. I'm thinking the next most restrictive part is the Y since the cats are 2 3/8" i.d. and the Y pipe is 2".

I like to take a methodical approach to a situation so I know the benefit/problem associated with the mod. If I had limited mod funds to play with, the HFC is a good place to start IMO. At under $500 for the pair delivered, it's a decent bang for the buck. If the HFC's don't meet expectations, add a Y Pipe and/or a complete cat back system.

If you're a weight weenie, the UR cat's save over 7 lbs each vs. OEM so your cost per pound is pretty good.

I'll post pic's and video when It quits raining...

Look into Fast Intentions Intimidator Exhaust.

www.fastintentions.com

also go over to the www.g35driver.com site and search for fast intentions and my alias - you'll find a few threads, samples and videos from current owners, etc.

PM me if you want more info.

our 3" system will rattle some of the windows in my house, lol. the 2.5" system almost does it. the funny thing, is that it really is not that loud, just really deep. the guys at the shop call my car "the bass machine" and it is not because of the speakers!
the sound is similar to what a set of flowmasters does to a V-8.

I would have to say Tanbe Super Hyper and is quite 95db's I just installed last weekend and love it. Keeps the VQ sound and wakes the car up, imo. I love the sound just like stock and when you romp stays deep and is still quite, a little louder than stock. and great price 649 shipped.

Fujitsubo is nice and deep...and does not sound like a rice rocket even with test pipes (and is not raspy). Fit and finish are as good as it gets

Pro-1 is hands down the deepest and loudest, but also probably has the most drone.
