Default K&N Typhoon CAI (Bad gas mileage)

Hello all.
I recently purchased an K&N Typhoon CAI and got it installed. The sound is deeper, engine sounds smoother and pickup seems a bit quicker. The main reason for this post is to understand why my gas guage is giving me readings as if I am driving like a madman when I havent changed my driving habbits since I got the CAI installed. Before I got the CAI installed my gas gauage would show mid to high twenties when on the highway and now when on the highway I am getting like high teens to low twentiesw (17-20). Do you think its because of the cold weather or maybe my ECU needs to be reset. I really dont know. Any advance would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Not sure. But would that make a difference if I reset the DTE a few days later?

best way to figure out if anything has changed is by resting you DTE and Trip Mileage. then drive the car like you always do and you will see if anything has changed.

I believe I found out what the problem is with my gas guage. I was driving to work today and it looks to be my gas guage is behind or slow estamating my gas mileage. For example it might take 5 mins for it to change from when I was on a local street speed avg then I would switch to highway speeds and it will think I am still driving on a local street. For example I would be on the freeway for 10 mins and the gas guage would show avg speed at 25mph and avg gas would be 17mpg but I would be on the freeway driving at 65mpg and the mpg should be around 20+ ? Make any sense? The ECU is confused?!?

The gas mileage indicator is a running AVERAGE. If you understand what that means, then you would know that what you see is perfectly normal. Reset you mileage indicator immediately before you want to get a reading under the present conditions so that the earlier average does not contribute to your readings. I doubt you gauge is 'wrong'. And the cold weather has a lot more to do with your gas mileage than the CAI.

i guarantee you are pushing the gas more to hear the intake sound. SO while the intake may get slightly better mileage, you are killing it by gasing it more
