Default which test and Y pipes??

I already have headers and rear for my car, I still need to get test pipes and Y pipe. I have alphawerks headers but the alphawerks test pipes are pretty spendy when they really dont seem like they would be anything different than other test pipes. Is alphawerks test pipes really worth it? or is there ones that will work just fine for less cash? and where to get a good Y pipe? thanks

There are plenty of threads about broken test pipes. Search is a great tool.

I love my AAM TP and Y-pipe combination ... don't go too cheap on TP's, many ppl have had theirs break. I went with the same company for TP and Y-pipe so that the system would match (you don't want to have different sizes mating together b/c it will mess with exhaust flow)

You know because you say you searched, and because I know the search can be vague at times I'll offer my advice, take it for what its worth...

For a y-pipe the nicest smoothest one Ive seen is the JIC. Downside is, the price, about $440. For $175 you can get an Intense Power y-pipe. The truth is the difference between the nicest aftermarket y-pipe and a "crappy" aftermarket y-pipe in terms of power is likely less than 2-3whp, so as far as power get what you can afford. I havent heard of too many -y-pipes breaking. Even if you ran a "cheap" Intense Power Y-pipe and it did break, Im confident Darren @ Intense would fix it/send you a new one, the secret is buy from good, reputable shops that stand behind their product.

As far as test-pipes, well its a little tougher, because in this area of exhaust modding I have heard of test-pipes breaking. Some have good luck with Megan test-pipes others dont. I personally wouldnt recommend them, because 2 friends of mine had Megan TP's crack! I had Kinetix test-pipes for a loonnngggggg time one of the earliest crappiest sets and NEVER had an issue, so Id trust them, plus if they did break Im sure because of them being on this site they would warranty the parts. In the end, again power wise you wont see much difference in performance, so choose the best you can within your budget.

I feel like Ive written a book here, but one more thing. Decide between non resonated (straight pipe) and resonated test-pipes. I ran non resonated but it was very raspy. Most exhaust systems IMO sound horrible with test-pipes, so in all honesty Id recommend resonated test-pipes to everybody. It will still make the exhaust louder, but will eliminate some/most of the rasp. Good luck in deciding, if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Strup, AAM, Intense Power, Kinetix, Stillen, Turbo XS are all brands I would trust....find something within your price range and decide between resonated or standard.

I think that's more important than the brand itself.

I say sell the stuff you have now and go all out and get the titanium stuff from Top Secret:

Headers 5400.00
Test Pipes 2000.00
Y 1500.00
Exhaust 3800.00

And think about all the weight savings.
