Default Not using the cat bracket on your exhaust will cause this.

The only guess i have is to why my exhaust keeps falling apart is that the cat bracket was not attached to it. This resonater that split is a Vibrant product, it is stainless steel. The megan test pipe i had on before this also split in exactly the same place as the vibrant one. Now is this just a problem with a 70$ resonater and a knockoff part, or is it not having the cat brace attached to it.

Owners have different experiences with different combinations of products. I have no catalytic converter support, and after 20,000 miles, everything is fine (knock on wood).

Any place where it is convenient to weld the OEM brace.

I ran no support on my test pipes and they cracked. I fixed them and put a brace back on the car to see if that would fix it they then broke again. the combination that i have now... few thousand miles... is a flex joint in each test pipe before the brace and the existing flex joints that are on the y pipe. The exhaust was too rigid before the addition of the second flex joints and that is what caused it to break. Good luck with the fix....they (exhausts) can be tricky to get right the first time.

That is a failed weld, nothing to do with the Cat Brace, which actually contributes to cats cracking fyi.

Im really considering using all 14 gauge pipe to the mid pipe. I think if i did that it
probably would not crack.

Rocks, Did someone wack off the ends of your Y pipe and weld on those resonators?

I am trying to figure out what is going on...

+1 vibrant stuff is made overseas and would have been machine welded. nothing wrong with that really, but when they polished the welds out, they knocked that area down really thin, hence bairily any thickness or filler material in the weld. thats why it made such a nearly perfect clean break.

looks more like poor penetration of the weld. imo

*edit*
I dunno, the weld failed regardless

Ashmo yes i made the ypipe and the resonators one section of the exhaust. I bought these off of ebay from verocious motorsports. I contacted them about it breaking and sent them pictures. They contacted vibrant and they offered a refund or a new resonator. Vibrant said it is a manufacturing defect. Ill have a new section made in a few weeks, ive been thinking about a couple of ideas. I put my cats and stock Y pipe back on for now. It feels like i lost 20hp or more.

What about just gutting the stock cats? With all this talk about cracking exhaust system. I think that might be the easiest thing.

vibrant is one of the biggest exhaust parts manufacturers in the world. unlike borla or other exhaust makers, vibrant makes all the other stuff like clamps mufflers resonators cats, flanges, etc............ they have MANY subsidiary companies under different names, basically, they about rule the exhaust world. verocious motorsports is a large dealer for vibrant products. if you need exhaust stuff, go to verocious, extremely good customer service and good prices. i think rocks story lets ya know they will take care of problems.
