Default 03-05 airbox vs 06+ airbox

Could someone please tell me the difference between these two boxes...I have searched and the only thing I have come up with is a velocity air stack?!?! I have both boxes sitting right in front of me and don't see ANY diff except a little metal ring inside. What does this do?? Is that the velocity air stack? Am taking my poop charger off and been reading that the 06+ air boxes are the best, I saw it on the top 100...anyways thanx in advance! PS what and how do you modify the stock airbox?

AFAIK the velocity stack is the only diff.

Well after Much searching in other websites I found out that the ONLY diff is that little tiny metal ring called a "velocity stack". All it does is help air flow more smoothly into the engine, the ring uses the venturi effect to accelerate air intake speed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect

May be in my head, but i went from popcharger, to '06 air box, and felt no loss of power. I lost the growl of the popcharger, in exchange for colder air. So it was worth it to me, esp with all the stop and go hot city driving i do. So in other words it would be a gain from yoru '03 box, but about equal, to popcharger in a stop and go environment.

I disagree, I did the same thing and I feel a difference at higher speeds.

The jwt is just basically a larger venturi ring with a better flowing filter than the 06.

BUt I have put the JWT back on and cleaned it. put it back on and then see if you don't feel a difference.

i think no one is feeling a difference but mainly hearing one.. pop is obviously louder which gives u a sensation of "being faster" ill refer to it as the "ricer affect". The pop would make you what .09 or .1 seconds faster if you can really feel that then your weird.

I'm sorry, have you tested it?

I went:

stock 03 > popcharger - gained on intial throttle application, more noise

popcharger (dirty) > 06 airbox - not much difference, but at higher speeds felt like it was struggling compared to how it used to rev

06 airbox > popcharger (clean)- on a roll, punching the gas, intial hit is more noticable, NOT by ear but by motion of the car which says to me: flows better

I didn't test it on a dyno if that is what you meant but I have actually used them and inspected the differences and performed the same actions to see differences.

This is a pointless discussion if no one has a dyno of both to compare.

I would have to agree with you, I actually felt like I lost a little ump with the poop charger both on my 06 and 04. Now that I have the 06 airbox with the my 04 and a k&n drop in It "feels" better especially at higher speeds
