Hey guys I currently have the Fujitsubo Legalis-R stainless exhaust setup on my 2006 Z (hooked to the JIC y-pipe). I have been looking to experiment with the setup by eliminating the resonator portion of the mid-pipe and just having a plain pipe in its place, however I do not want to hack up the Fujitsubo mid-pipe. Coincidentally I have a lead on a Nismo mid-pipe at a good price so I am wondering if anyone knows off-hand whether the Fujitsubo and Nismo mid-pipes are interchangeable. I ask this only because I have read that Fujitsubo actually manufactures the Nismo exhaust, and since the two setups are so similar I thought maybe the mid pipes were the same. I'm wondering about flange size, pipe length, bend location, pipe diameter, etc. I know this is a shot-in-the-dark type question, but maybe someone out there has some experience. Thanks!

Come to think of it, I am wondering if any members here have done this idea before, that is running an OEM-style exhaust (either OEM, Fujitsubo, Nismo, etc.) with the mid-pipe resonator removed and a piece of straight pipe in its place. I am thinking that performance would not be significantly affected in either direction, but I am wondering what it does for sound. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

 

I think my NISMO is already too loud and I'm wondering if it is possible to add a second resonator.

 

yeah you should be alright. im pretty sure they are identical. you might destroy the sound of it though, by removing the resonator. just a thought

I am reading (in another thread here) that the NISMO is louder than the Fuji as they come. Anyone have any knowledge of this?

 

I've heard a nismo exhaust with a resonator removed. It doens't sound BAD, just maybe a little raspy.

I personally like it better with the resonator IN.

I'd be more interested in hearing what it sounded like with whatever is in that rear canister scraped out.

I'm not positive, but I would think the midpipes on both exhaust would be interchangable (don't hold me to that though).

From what I have heard in person, the Fujitsubo has a lower tone at a lower decibel level, while the Nismo has a higher tone at a higher decibel level. I really do like the way my Fujitsubo system sounds, but I just wish it was a few clicks louder.

You know, that little tid-bit of information would have been worth a thousand bucks 2 days ago. And I searched my *** off too! Seriously. You should see how many threads on this I'm subscribed to. Yikes.

Luckily the Touring Medalion is available as a Y-back, so I can keep my NISMO Y-pipe and just have to buy and install the Tanabe's rear sections. But damn!

Now watch someone tell me the Tanabe won't attach to the NISMO Y-pipe.

I would assume that the Nismo and the Fuji has all the same bends, piping, etc. My Super Ti, compared to the Nismo, is definitely not as loud and deeper in tone. When both rev into the high rpm's, the Nismo seems to be louder, but that may be because it's higher in pitch.

 

You didn't search my threads! Nismo vs Fujitsubo was mentioned numerous times.

 

I told you already, man. Throw some high flow cats on there, it will totally achieve what you're looking for in effecting the sound of the fujitsubo, and increase the performance of your car.

I have the Nismo cat-back w/stock cats and the previous owner removed the resonator. I added Crawford high flow cats onto it and it's one of the meanest sounding NA Z's I have heard. I would like to get my hands on a mid-pipe with a resonator though to see how different it would sound. Go with some high flows and see how you like it before you cut up on the fuji or nismo exhausts.

 

Oh damn, thanks for reminding me! I completely forgot about that other thread where we discussed that. I probably asked this over there....but with HFC's is there any dreaded 'rasp'? Definitely looking to keep the sound on the deep / growl trend and not the screaming rasp racket.

 

I currently have a Nismo with the Nismo mid-pipe/resonator and Strup unresonated TP's. Loud and Raspy! Haha.

 

No, I do not believe I did because your s/n does not look familiar. How old are they? I'm all searched-out right now, but I'll give it another few hours later. A link would be really, really cool.

If I'd have heard one person say that the NISMO was louder and higher pitched, I would have jumped all over the Medalion Tourings, because those are the best looking pipes out there and are the ones I really wanted in the first place.

Also, no one ever mentions that the NISMO has an oval tip, not round. In the pictures it looks round.

I guess I'll now be the proud owner of two exhaust systems for my Z.
