Default really need some more help please, more problems.. kinetix v+ plenum

i would have put this in the tech area however i dont need tips on installing... its already installed... and yes i serched first...

so i had the kinetix v+ plenum installed today by my buddy who is thru his first year of school to become a mechanic.. ive had a few performance parts installed already and i know they each change the feel of your car, but with this one i want to make sure nothing is wrong..

it seems alot louder than usual, the gas pedal also seems to vibrate a little when im givin gas.. i can def. feel a bit more power however im curious if this other stuff is normal, the loudness is not bad, no wierd sounds or anything, just the same as before with the volume turned up..

Yes, it's going to be louder. For more air is entering, giving it a deeper sound. So far as the pedal, I don't see where that will come into play at all. I'm sure it's all ok.

the only thing that makes me nervous about the vibration on the pedal is that its not consistant, it like vibrates just kinda randomly, especially on turns

The only possible problem with installing a plenum is vacuum leak.

If I'm not mistaken, a vacuum leak will generally cause your car to sputter out and stall.

If everything is tightened down you should be fine.

you are being hypersensitive to vibrations and sounds that were probably there all along, because you're skeptical of installing mods

try resetting the ECU. There are tons of DIY's on that in the DIY section.

It sounds like the plenum is contacting the strut bar.

Put some washers under the driver side of the strut bar bracket to lift it up a little bit. That should fix it.

+1 I installed my spacer tonight and when I drove it I had a vibration, after raising the bar up a tad it was all good

Aren't spacers also supposed to come with spacers to raise the strut bar?

It depends on which kit and which manufacturer you are talking about.

For MD, the strut bar spacers are provided only for the 350Z kits because its the only one that needs it.
And I think Kinetix does too but I don't really know.

Skunk doesn't supply them at all.

hey i know this is a semi old thread, but i just got my v+ installed and i'm noticing vibrations too...and weird "gurggling" like noises...it's not stalling so i don't think i have a leak..but yeah, i also have the high flow cats (from kinetix) installed..and we took off the stock brace so those are vibrating a lot....is that normal? i hear the growl, but i also hear some weird gurggling noise...is that the ECU adjusting? with the kinetix plenum, i couldn't even put on the stock engine cover. AND...most importantly, i can't seem to clear the strut bar (but i'm sorta liking hydrazine's suggestion about just putting washers just on the driver side) and i seem to notice the plenum rubbing against my hood. any suggestions/help? i'm kinda nervous...this is my first major mod. thanks.

If the plenum is rubbing against the hood, nothing can fix that.

hmmm...i didn't think to check the gaskets. i cleaned them well with wd-40....and there was only 8k miles on them..perhaps I should've just replaced them? well that will answer the cat question...but yeah, i'm still not sure what to do about the rubbing on the hood.

i taped a sand paper on the hood. It will shave off the contact point on the V+. The V+ is very thick so it's safe to do it.

this is happening to you too kenny? kinetix just emailed me saying i could send it over to them and they'll just shave it in that area and check the gaskets...i could do that myself i suppose.

Unless if they ship me a new one to replace. I'm not going to take it out and have the down time of couple weeks. I use sand paper #60 and just taped it on the hood. You will see where you should tape it because you can see where the V+ hitting the hood and the paint is off.
