Maybe your upper plenum is rubbing against the strut bar. Check if for clearance first. If it's touching, loosen the strutbar and try driving again.

whether you need a tune or not isnt the problem. Something went wrong with the install. Friends doing installs FTL.

Make sure there is a spacer under the strut bar to give it clearance from the upper plenum.

If I were you just look over the instructions again and make sure everything was done right.

Bottom line ---This shouldnt be happening. There is no quick fix or band-aid. Take it off and reinstall it. There a gitch somewhere. You HAVE to eliminate that possibility before you move on.

Plug a vacuum gage into your plenum and see what you get for a reading at idle

Sorry ---Im a coot and tend to assume. If he is getting a rough idle and a lag, there may be a vacuum leak from a poor installation seal. A vacuum gage plugged into the 3/16 vacuum port with the rubber cap on it, on the front passenger side of the upper plenum will verify that

Maybe, but generally not unless the rubber cap is brittle and cracked from heat. A upper plenum/spacer leak is generally around the perimeter or lower plenum Gasket
