Default Fujita 07 dual intake install finished..some small tips

Just finished putting mine in. Hers a few impressions and mebbe a few tips some may or may not find useful.

It was really easy EXCEPT for gettin those friggin hose clamps off to pull the short tubing that goes to the crankcase. I recommend taking off the engine cover and disconnecting the big hose from the throttle first so you have more room to get some 90 degree pliers on those stupid clamps. I also recommend using a metal sewing thymbol on your finger to help save your fingers to push the tabs into a position that you can get at.

One issue though, the holes for reconnecting the small crankcase tubes arent even close to lining up. It was easier if you remove the passenger side little box on the top of the engine that the hose connects to (youll see what I mean) so you can work the hoses better. The passenger side one has enough room to fit sort of ok with minimal kinkage because theres more space between the engine connector and the tube, but the hose they give you doesnt seem flexible enough to make that angle on the drivers side. It doesnt totally pinch it off but it bothers me enough that I want to fix that. I think a thinner tube would work, or putting a shorter tube on the other side of the 3way junction to make more room, or maybe a longer tube to do a loop would work also. Also because of that angle it seemed the crankcase hose wasnt staying flush to the new intake tube, so to prevent any possible leakage I put a small twisty band clamp around it and that solved that.

I also wish they had put the MAF sensors in a slightly different place because I wanted to wrap the wires underneath it so they wouldnt show..but its not quite long enough to reach that way so you got some nice black wires runnin over the top of the tube.

So that is all. My back hurts from fighting with that hoseclamp so I dont want to remove the strut bar again to get at that kinked hose for at least another week. It looks very nice though

Well the car isnt broken in yet so I havent been able to hear WOT, but from 3-4k it definitely sounds more 'open', if that makes sense. It doesnt make as loud a sucking sound at idle like the CAI on my Matrix does either, which is good. Power, well i think a few folks are gonna dyno before and after so thatll be nice to see just what this thing puts out..if anything.

I was able to do the install without removing the strut bar (credit goes to VitViper for the suggestion)... +1 on removing the engine cover though!!!

The point of this post was to give some impressions on making the install easier..not to review the product performance as a whole. I didnt have my cam with me during the install so Im sorry I dont have pics of those trouble areas. I cant give full impressions of it since I aint even hit 400 miles on my car yet. Im sure someone will have more info for you soon

I did the best I can to help everyone out with what I had. If ya doint like it then go buy your own and take allll the pics ya want

This was posted by WalkerT on a separate thread in this forum... This is a perfect example of what the Intake sounds like at WOT:

Incidentally, Equinox confirmed this is his "mule" Z used for the prototype by Fujita.

None, except it will be very expensive.

No, its quite a bit more than that -- dynos put it at 9-11 and you know dynos kind of run low for CAI.

--------

Anyway, I installed mine tonight. Took a bit of time because I dropped and had to fish out a 10mm bolt from under the engine block - NOT FUN.

Some Notes:
  • The crankcase tubing *is* a *****. The type of angle you need to bend the tubing at pretty much cuts the total circumference of the tubing in half --- I have no idea if this is okay or not, but the angle is awful. This is probably the only negative side of the actual design of the intake.
  • The stock air vents are a PAIN to remove. I damn near gave up and was about to remove my front bumper before I got the angle right and put a little muscle into it.
  • It seems like I gained a LOT of torque and low-end with the intake. Take off from a stop is noticeably faster. I'll be interested to see what my new 0-60 timing is.
  • Very minimal gains in the mid-range from 3.5-5.5k rpm
  • A noticeable increase in throttle response in the higher RPM range.
  • The sound is amazing. The stock exaust note is a little deeper and slightly throaty. The engine is louder and deeper all around, but not raspy. Its a very nice note.
  • The NOS energy drink that CarDomain included in the box tasted absolutely awful.

I will post plenty of high-res images and close ups tomorrow, as well as a movie with some decent sound.

I have work in 6 hours so its time for me to hit the sack!

You're not suppose to drink it, it's a fuel additive!
