kind of short story:

I got the fast intentions test pipes for my 07 Z, and took the car into the local shop I always go to for install stuff. We got the OEM cats off, only to find that Nissan had severely cross threaded the 02 sensors from the factory. After trying everything we could think of, we eventually got the sensors out. Unfortunately the threading was beyond ruined on the 02 sensors(thank you Nissan.... ). One of the guys who works at the shop called a dealer he used to work at and tried to see if he could swing me some new 02 sensors, since they were ruined by no fault of mine. His friend said he couldn't trick them into giving me new ones, due to the fact that I should have no reason to take them out in the first place, unless they were defective. So I ended up just picking up some Bosch 02 sensors, since the shop gave me a deal on them and they were cheaper than buying new Nissan ones. So anyways on to my question. The non foulers I had already purchased are too small for the new Bosch 02 sensors apparently. The shop did the whole drill out the non foulers thing already, and still no luck. So does anyone know if there are non foulers that will work with those 02 sensors? Or is there another trick to fight this CEL light that of course came on about 30 miles later(other than the pedal trick)? Sorry about the long post, but I figured I'd tell why I was asking about new 02 sensors in a car that's only a few months old. Thanks in advance for any help.

 

So the Bosch O2 sensors are bigger than the stock sensor? Shouldn't be the case if they are replacing into the same bungs... I thought the O2 sensor socket size was pretty standard.

 

that's what I thought too. I mean, they fit in the holes on the pipes just fine, but they even showed me the drilled out non foulers and the 02 sensors weren't fitting in them. Is there really a difference? Or did the shop just not get the non foulers drilled out right? They didn't even charge me for the non foulers or drilling them out, since I come in there all the time and they didn't even work. So I know they aren't just trying to squeeze money out of me or something.

 

Maybe they didn't drill it correctly?

 

Some pics would be niiice to help ya out... Did they stack two nonfoulers together like this?

 

On a 2003-2006 you will need to drill the non foulers out with a 1/2" drill bit. The 2007 model will require a larger drill bit. Take a micrometer and measure the O.D. of the O2 sensor probe. Then use a drill bit just slightly larger and you should be fine. If the drill bit is to big to fit in the non fouler without obstructing the threads then that means you will need to get a set of Nissan O2 sensors for your car. That is only if you come to the conclusion that the Bosch probe is larger then the Nissan probe...

BTW, non-foulers are not the only game in town, unless you're really cheap. Several companies now make O2 sensor extensions that beat the hell out of non-foulers. I bought one from Weapon-R and have yet to throw a CEL on my cat-less Honda after 3K miles. The adapter is much longer than a non-fouler and has a right angle in the path which makes it extra difficult for the sensor to find all that bad air. If you're having problems with non-foulers, you ought to give something else a try. Weapon-R is expensive, but there are others out there that are cheaper.

 

Are the WR's stainless? If so, I could see that being a better alternative to the nonfouler mod... Otherwise the nonfoulers do work. I painted mine with header paint prior to installation so they wouldn't rust.

 

Yes, they are stainless and VERY thick. Each one is L-shaped and about 6" long. Like I said, there is almost no way you will throw a CEL if installed correctly.
