here's vid of the ringing sound....mic doesn't pick it up as much as the ol ears do. but listen around 10 seconds in...it begins there
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cnWJcuywWl8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cnWJcuywWl8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Here's the 2nd one...after the magnaflow x pipe/muffler addition. no more ringing. I dropped the windows right before the first underpass...then back up when I got to speed...hoping it'd show the true volume.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WeEBmfxyDVM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WeEBmfxyDVM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Interesting - I can easily pick out the ringing noise in your 1st video, but I can't locate the sound in the 2nd video. My exhaust hasn't made that ringing sound at all. What is your Z, WTX?

Yeah the 2nd video is after the "fix"

no strange sounds...just pure unadulterated sexy exhaust. its louder in person than in vids...not sure how to show that. maybe a drive by style video.

I blame the ringing on the combo of the HFC's and the exhaust...but there's no way to know for sure...

what do you mean what is my Z?

its a 2003 redline touring 5AT
intake is Amsoil drop in filter.
exhaust is Kinetix HFC, CXlighting (HKS clone), w/ Magnaflow muffler/ x pipe

looks like a reg ol muffler, but when you peek inside you can see the "x-ing of the pipes"

Ah, OK, that makes sense. I just skimmed through what you wrote and didn't take note that the second video was taken to show your fix. So, good job! I'm glad it worked.

And I meant to ask what year what your Z, my bad.

Still, like I mentioned before, mine doesn't make the ringing sound, however, I am using stock cats. I wonder if HFCs cause the ringing noise?

I edited the vid post so it'd be more clear....I assume a lot!

oh, yup its a 2003

I haven't heard of any other Xo2, HKS, etc owner having this issue....so yeh I'm blaming the HFC/exhaust combo

WTX350Z, is there any special modding that has to be done to use the magnaflow x pipe or is it a direct bolt on?

yes. cutting and Welding. I'll try to get under the car tommorow for some pics. it was a substantial amount of work...labor only cost me 60 bucks though....they did take out more than I wanted...but the results were worth it.

I honestly don't notice any difference in power. its just much quieter/cleaner...and no ringing sound.

do you have testpipes? or HFC's?

Oh, I ordered from performance curve off ebay. they say 125.00 shipped OBO. I offered 100 shipped they took i tin like 5 mins...so might try offering a little less.

It was kinda embarassing @ the autox...since it was a porsche club event...made me feel bad. pathetic I know...but they already think Porsche>Z

Is anyone having any problems with the gaskets that come with the CX Lighting Exhaust. I got the clone a few weeks ago, and I'll be Jett Coating the rear section of the exhaust in semi-gloss black. As soon as I get it back I'll be putting it onto the Z and was wondering how the gaskets are holding up. Planning on doing the bumper tuck as well to show off a black exhaust
