Default Tanabe y-pipe advice needed

Hey guys, just installed a non-revup lower collector and a MD 5/16 plenum spacer in my 2K6 6mt. G3 coupe this weekend and am trying to finalize a decision on a y-pipe. I've bought Stillen y-pipes in other cars and have had no problems. Is a Tanabe that much better, and is it worth the extra cost ($200+ more)? I'm pretty sure that I won't be spening $1,300-1,500 on an exhaust that won't add much hp anyway and is just for looks. Any advice is appreciated and if you recommend the Tanabe, where's the best or least expensive place to get one online? Thanks.

best price i have seen was from intense. the tanabe would match up alot better to the stock midpipe than the 3" outlet on the stillen y pipe. if you have a larger aftermarket midpipe that has an inlet closer to the outlet of the stillen then it should be fine. the only thing that concerns me about the stillen design is the lack of flex sections.

Thanks guys, I'll probably go ahead and buy the Tanabe, after I add my tint and speakers on the car. Intense seems to be a good price. Most places the cost is $400+.

I have the Tanabe y mated to the Amuse Exhaust and am pleased with it--no problems--bought from Intense.

I have had both the Tanabe and the JIC Y-pipes, and the Amuse exhaust. The JIC is a little better finish, but both are high quality pieces. For the Amuse, the JIC is a better match because the outlet of the Tanabe is 2.75", while the JIC is 3.00". The inlet to the Amuse midpipe is 3.00". You will probably never feel the difference, and you may never hear it, but to a perfectionist, the JIC is the obvious choice.

Is the Tanabe y-pipe as flexible as the JIC pipe?
And will it fit the nismo exhaust?

I need a pipe that wont crack my HFCs...

thanks in advance

The JIC outlet is not 3 inches, it is 3.15 inches (80mm). So technically it is .15 inches larger than the Amuse inlet.

The Tanabe is 2.75 inches (70mm). So it is .25 smaller than the Amuse inlet.

Neither the JIC or the Tanabe is a perfect fit. Fuji and AAM are perfect fit, but I don't particularly like their design.

A perfectionist would not by either the Tanabe or the JIC pipe when considering piping diameter (although I think these 2 offer the most free-flowing design for y pipes with flex sections).

So regarding the Tanabe/JIC choice for an Amuse exhaust, do you want a y pipe that is .15 inches too big, or .25 too small?

Personally, I'd rather have the .25 smaller, b/c it is normal to have an exhaust chain that starts smaller than ends with a larger piping diameter, but I don't think .15-.25 in. really makes much of a difference.

The fact of the matter is that none of them make any difference over another. What separates them is quality of construction and overall fit. The JIC is an 80mm pipe - that doesn't mean the outlet is 80mm, only that the pipe is. Flow wise, again, won't amount to a damn thing which one you get.

As for pricing, unfortunately as of March 1 all Tanabe's pricing is taking a big leap upwards - my guess is due to the falling dollar and rising material costs

+1. Simple and straight-forward. OP should be considering quality and price.
