Default True Dual comparison

I have a few questions about a few true dual exhausts. The main ones I am looking at are HKS, Injen, and Borla. I have checked out youtube videos, but to me the sound qualities of the video make more difference than the sound quality of the exhaust, so that is tough to make the judgment call there.

HKS - 60mm piping, claims 11.8 hp and 5.7 tq gains (I saw that here https://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323579). My best price i have found is 1250 pickup from a local shop (in stock).

Borla - Couldn't find piping diameters, I have seen claims of 16-20 hp and 12 lbs lighter than stock (https://my350z.com/forum/engine/245651-borla-350z-true-dual-exhaust-ss-system-sale-in-stock-140045-a.html) and the best price I have found is 870 shipped.

Injen - 60mm piping, seems similar to HKS, gains 11.9 hp and 9 tq (http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...6-p-30337.html) and the price seems to be around 960 for the titanium version.

I have wanted the HKS for a long time, but after researching, it is the most expensive with the smallest gains. Is the quality that much better (both sound and craftsmanship)? Also, are these gains I have found accurate?

Well, for now the plan is to stay NA, so I think 3" would be somewhat counterproductive for that, wouldnt it?

Injen will be updating their True Dual as well with H-pipe. You might want to wait for that as well, unless you can't wait any longer.

I really like the Borla system. Had I gotten a true dual, that's the system I would have gotten.

I just put the Borla and Crawford HFC's on my Nismo and love the results. Noticable pick up in power, sounds much like the Nismo did stock, no drone, no rasp.

To me I believe the Injen will be the best shot. HKS you are paying for the name, Injen is mostly the same as HKS in performance but cheaper. Remember that the claims they post are not accurate, unless you have them intalled in your car and you dyno once you have them. That's what I'm buying next week anyways. Hope that helps.

Well since Ive been doing the same research for awhile now Ill give you my input: This is all from just reading threads here on the forum.

1. Injen is already producing their exhausts with the H pipe, no need for waiting ^ mentioned above.
2.Injen has had the most reviews of drone. In most threads, its notorious for drone and cabin noise.
3.Injen is for sale in the Ti tip version for 899 shipped through jim at showstoppers.
4.HKS has a very different sound in person from most of the videos ive heard.

I would also through in the Bassani exhaust into your research as it sounds very good. It is a dual exhaust with a X pipe to eliminate any drone or rasp. There is an entire thread dedicated to this exhaust with sound clips.

The only one ive heard sounded deaper in person than high pitched like in some videos. Its all about sound honestly. The amount of power gained NA wise with exhaust is very minimal. So make sure that you get something that will sound good to your liking. Personally, my choices are down to HKS, Tanabe Medallion Hyper, Bassani, and Injen. If the Bassani looked better from behind, it would not even be considered. Im just taking my time.

I recommend that you:

a. Set a budget.
b. Decide what configuration is best for you. Single. Dual. One or two mufflers.
c. Listen before buying.

All the exhausts are a similar setup/piping size, so power won't vary much at all. Just do whatever you can to hear them in person then make a decision. Injen is the loudest of the bunch, that's up to you if it's a good thing or bad thing. Keep in mind you can always add HFCs or TPs to make any of them louder. I was originally deciding between the Injen and the HKS, but ruled out the HKS because of the price. I was dead set on Injen until that damn Bassani started getting some much deserved attention on the forum. Freakin thing sounds incredible. However, it's not much better looking than stock, so I ended up going with the Injen with Ti tips.

I was one of the first people that bought the Skunk2 MegaPower system, and after months of use, I am really pleased with it. I didn't dyno the car, so I can't technically vouch for power, but the sound is quite nice with my only other mod being a Motordyne 5/16". There isn't any drone. I'll put it this way: you will not be forgetting about your tire "roar" issue (if you have it) with this exhaust on.

The fit and finish is good too, and it's one of the most economical choices for a true dual. You can find it in the marketplace forums from a couple of vendors, I think.
