Oh yeah the popcharger + spacer + MREV2 whistles like a tea kettle in various RPM ranges, that's normal. My favorite is that quick whistle + exhaust note when blipping the throttle for a down shift

got a question for you Hydrazine, i bought a used 5/16 spacer and the guys told it s a motordyne one but doesnt look exactly the same as this

it s like black gasket on and under the spacer, is it just because its a used one ?

Yes, that is because all the Motordyne spacers come with the gaskets pre-attached.

Thats just the gasket.

With the MREV2 is there still a slight top end loss with it, Or would test pipes fix that?

Question for you Tony.

I've been dealing with a rough idle since I put on the 5/16 spacer and MREV2. Typically, it idles right around 750, but after sitting at a light for about 15 seconds or so, it will dip down to @ 600 every so often (maybe 10 second interval?). It'll just give a little shake and then go back up to 750. The car runs fine otherwise.

My guess is that there is a leak, but a visual check of the spacer tells me that its on properly. My only other mod is a popcharger, but I dont think that would cause it. I bought a can of carb cleaner yesterday and once I get home from work, I'll give it a few sprays around the plenum to see if I can track down the leak (if thats the problem). Any thoughts or suggestions? Also, what signs would there be if there is a leak when using the carb cleaner? Rpms increase?

The Carb cleaner is a good way to find leaks. Give it a try and let me know what you find.

And yes, it is possible the pop charger may also be involved but try the carb cleaner first and we'll take it from there.

Yeah, I know I'll make alot of Mid Range.
I just remember seeing a dyno and saw that they gained mid range and lost top end.
Will a plenum spacer and test pipes help fix that?

Found it!

I tried the carb cleaner yesterday...no luck.

Today, I put the stock intake back on...problem still exists. But the hissing sound went away which means that was caused by the Popcharger, not a leak

So, I look around a little and found what I think was causing it. The black metal gasket that goes between the copper plate and the throttle body was out of whack

(my rendition of what it looked like)


As you can see, it was off center and only held in by the top right bolt. I'm sure that wasnt helping the airflow either! Fortunately, I only had to unbolt the intake and the throttle body to get the gasket out. It was all bent to hell from not being in correctly.

Luckily, when I installed everything, I reused the stock gasket. So, I had the one that came with the 5/16 spacer left over.

So, I put the new one in and bolted everything back up.

Took the car for a drive and the idle is perfect so far!

Congrats on finding the problem. A gasket misplaced like that will certaintly be a problem.

Yea, once I saw part of the gasket sticking out from the rear of the throttle body, I knew something wasnt right. Now, I'm very thankful that you throw one in with your kits! Glad I kept that extra piece around.

It will be clearly above. Your car will be a lot faster with it.

Note: the top tuning/racing companies in Japan generally don't use the stock revup lower plenum. They know that overall, for racing applications, the stock revup lower plenum reduces power.
