Test Pipes Review: Breaking tha LAW!
Hello,
Your local Village Idiot here to give a review of the newly installed test pipes from the custom fabricators here at 350Z.com (Mr. Jones?). The ordering process was okay - i'd give it a 6 out of 10 stars. The process could have been a lot smoother, however, the end result is what matters right?
I have the Borla True Dual Exhaust. Prepare for stink first off. It's been said before so just be forewarned - the egg smell has returned and it's back with AVENGENCE!!!! I'm sure I'll get some burn off, however, I'm not expecting too much. Now - let me stop my meaningless babble
and get to the juice.
The Test pipes are to date my best modification for the Z PERIOD. Now I haven't got my Plenum or TechnoSquare ECU yet (VERY SOON!!!), but the acceleration is noticable right away. I have a hard time pin pointing where the band heats up more ... but I'm thinking in the lower torque areas is where she really picks up. She's never been super quick off the line, however, she now moves like someone lit a match under her *** in the 4000 rpm area. The noise at a stand still is very, very, VERY nice. No, I don't have any recordings to share... I've been making other home movies man!!! At WOT you get some tin can gurgle like on resignator less factory system. You've got to really lean on it to get it to do it, however. There is also an interesting hiss noise I never really noticed before.... either my AEM is sucking like 50x's more air or there's a leak in the exhaust (I seriously doubt there is a leak.
The tin can farty noise is okay when I put the hammer down. I really want to be outside the car to experience before I label it official "tin-can-farty" noise. It just kinda reminds me of the noise the resignatorless stock system made... any woots.
I am pounding cars with ease now. I have been walking away from cars in a different kinda way ever since the cat pipes went in. You sortah feel more powerful muhahhahahahaaa... yeessss morreee powwwwaaahhh muuuhahahahaaaa

After installing the Cat Pipes with the stock exhaust, I too heard the wooshing sound and I have the K&N filter. The Injen, of course is too loud to hear anything besides the exhaust so I assume the wooshing is still there but not for sure.
I gained several 4-5 car lengths up to 80 on a stock Z. I don't think he knew how to launch very well so the result isn't too relevant but it sure was fun!!!
I also did a rolling start 5-60 run and came out with a 4.85 so I know the Z is kickin significantly better than before.

Those 30 lbs of cats really do make a difference. I have noticed my gas milage seems to have suffered considering I'm hammering the SOB like crazy since I got'em pulled. It's pulling MUCH harder and breathing a LOT better
The powerband has definitely fluxuated. After about 3Grand it just gets crazy... the pull is MAD and the car feels very ANGRY. I mean... it's like bat out of hell... kinda makes you feel mean too... it's a psychological thing. I'm transforming... All I gotta say is Borla + Test Pipes = Muhahahhaaaaaa... GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRR!!!

AWESOME PRICE - AWESOME QUALITY!
Honestly... the least expensive choice should be the best choice - these are pretty brainless pieces...
Just wait...
Technosquare... Crawford Plenum... Testpipes... Borla... AEM Intake = firebreathing MONSTER!

Several questions:
How loud is it? Is it obnoxiously loud??
CEL: Any check engine lights? Also is there any possible harm to the car? And what's with the gas smell? Is that always gonna be there?
Installation: I assume it's fully reversible? Or did you have to do some cutting & welding?

The smell is subsiding a bit - still some stink, however. The noise that the exhaust make now is a LOT different then the Borla by itself. At an idle and 1/2 WOT it's a nice grumble. As you get closer to WOT there is more and more ting/ting... a little mechanical sounding zippy, growl... at the top of WOT it is very close to the sound that the resignatorless stock makes... and yes, it is definitely loud. I was rippin through downtown Seattle and it echos off the buildings like a son-of-a-*****. I don't hate the sound but I don't necessarily like it either. I think I prefer the growl sound of the Borla True Dual... Then again... the way my gas tank seems to have a hole in it
that makes for some significant power gains. After Crawford Plenum (tomorrow) I'll have a lil review for you all... I hope the plenum deepens the whole sound a bit...
