All Those sounds?????
Hello all, new guy here and I've taken some time to do some reading. I just bought my 07 about three weeks ago and I'm looking into the exhaust.
First, allow me to introduce myself, I'm 50, yeah and old guy, and I've played with cars and bikes since I was 14. I have a few still here at the house, a 68 Firebird, 66 GTO clone and a 72 MGB, plus the daily drivers. I've had so many cars in the past, it would take a while to list them all. I DIY everything from paint and body to engines and drive trains, just bought a machine for doing upholstery.
With that said, I have also built numerous exhaust systems.
So I've been reading around and it seems that there is never any discussion on the dynamics of the system, just buy this brand and if you don't, you're not cool.
Since I like to DIY everything, I plan on building my own setup, with a particular sound in mind. But I would like to get some input as kind of a way to have fun while doing it. Anyone game?

About the valve timing.
If I'm not mistaken, the 2007 HR motor adopted the continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) for intake and (e-VTC) for exhaust, controlled by the ECU.
I'm not sure if there is a piggyback ECU that will adjust the valve timing, just ignition timing.
PS - I turn 43 next month and hope to be playing with big boy toys till I'm 60+.
I still have my 667HP '68 Chevelle SS396 I bought in 1982 for $800 (needed work) and will have it till I die.
Love my 350Z but I'm a 'Heavy Metal for Lifer'!

CVTC and EVTC, this should make it more interesting. Now to find out how they control. Parameters, need parameters. I'm going to try and get the car up to where I can take some pictures and measurements today. I'll CAD everything as I go. I'm needing to reorder a book I once had and loaned out, The Scientific Design of Exhaust and Intake Systems, the info is old but still very practical, physic is physics.
Thanks for the replies, and garym, there no substitute for the raw torque of a big block. I'm getting ready to sell the 66 GTO. Not enough shop space to keep all the toys. I decided to keep the 68 Firebird and the three 400 blocks that I have. Besides the Z and the bird look great side by side in the shop.

Updates are slow, I've spent much of my free time listening to the sounds of others exhaust systems. None of them so far have clicked just right, but the Bassani is close. I noticed that some of the systems use a Helmholtz resonator to control noise, while it works, I would say it's a cheap stab at controlling noise in an exhaust system.
Right now I'm taking more measurements than anything else, for two reasons. One is that I'm also building a sound system for the car and two is I want to avoid any cabin resonance from the exhaust system.
I think the key for the system to sound good is going to be the resonators. The length of pipe needed to get from the front to the rear is a prime target for resonance.
Judging by the size of the ones I've seen virtually all the systems that have them, they are absorbtion types, nothing more than a fancy glass packs. I'm sure this is more of a realestate issue than anything else. So my focus is going to be how to build a reflective wave system in that small of a location without generating any cabin resonance.
