GruppeM CF intake
Ok, I got home around 6:30 PM and began installing my intake. I followed these instructions to take out the bumper. Bumper took me about 40 min. since this was my first time taking it out. I finally got it out and began the procedure with the intake. Going only by the pictures it was pretty confusing at times. I finished everything up at around 9:30 PM.
MY THOUGHTS.
When I started the car, I didn't feel a sound difference like other intakes. I told my friend to rev, and the car had a very low whistle sound when the gas was initially pressed. I took it out on the road...and I really couldn't hear any difference aside from the whistle sound. I had to punch the gas to actually hear a throaty sound. IMO I think the Z is pretty loud as is, so the sound on normal driving is not going to get any louder.
The car had more pull than before. Not buy A LOT, but it was pretty noticeable. I think comparing with other intakes I had in the past for my Prelude, this one you can definetely feel the difference. The power seems to be all over the RPM, not just in the high end. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, but install is/was a *****.
I was messing around with a friend last night on the freeway, redlining thru all the gears, it had a nice feel. With the ECU upgrade on my car, I was able to go all the way to redline w/o the engine being cut off on me.
REACT3 QUESTIONS REGARDING INSTALL
Since we were the first two to install it I would like to ask you a few questions.
1. Did the bottom hole connect to anything or is it just suppose to be exposed facing the bottom.
2. Did you use the little hose that came with the intake? I couldn't see it in the instruction so I left mine out.
3. Did you have to take a black bracket out, and move the horn a little over to get the air ram system in the bolts that was told to have it installed in by the instructions?
On A Side Note: Was shooting pool last night and this morning I found my antenna missing. Dam kids why do they have to steal an antenna??

It wasn't until I went out on the highway and stomped on the gas, hitting around 3500 RPMs under power, that all of a sudden a sweet new sound revealed itself with my AEM CAI.
Driving around town under partial throttle you will hear no difference. It only sings when you're accelerating hard.
Hehe no I didn't misunderstand. It was actually talking about the other intakes in other cars. Sorry didn't clarify. In my Prelude when I initally started the engine w/ the intake and w/o the intake there was a sound difference. You could hear that it was louder in idle with the intake then w/o. Sorry wasn't clear about that.

1. no it didn't connect to nothing ..I think the hole is just there to suck up more air.. If you noticed when you looked down that area there were holes where air can come in.
2. No I didn't I couldn't figure out where it would go.
3. I did I kinda bent the horn to the left to fit it.. If you look at my pics. I'm holding that back piece in my hand.. I just removed it completely.. http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/react3 for the pics under the 350Z folder.. Cut and paste the link if it doesn't work

Nice! I like it. Its different and the design seems to make sense to me. More so than the Injen or AEM's.
I am going to try to get one from Samir next week. I'll try to get dyno'ed too (its a hassle around here but I'll see what I can do).

think of the power gains if they replaced the upper pipe.
i'd say well over 15hp since that's where most of the gains are on the Injen and AEM.

Thanks Z33, I have a full Veilside Ver.1 kit except for the wing. I've had my car for 2 months only and the only other mods that I have so far are the intake and the Techno Square ECU upgrade.
rodH - You probably can make a ram air to your stock box, and probably will see a very minimal if not no gain from that. The CF, like many others out there, are just preference. It doesn't mean we are going to drive our cars with our hood open, or right after we park our cars open the hood. And yes it's pricy...blah blah...but if you look at it that way there are a lot of things for a car that you can get the job done in a really cheap way. Heck you can even dress you car in cardboard and say that's your kit! Like I said preference, and just because some of us like CF I feel like you dont' have to come down on us like that. If you like it GREAT! If you don't, GREAT don't get it. I don't see why people have to be so opinionated about everything. BTW injen/aem intakes are nothing but a pipe and a filter. Which can't cost more than $50 to actually make it.
Mike was referring the 15 hp gain comment about the GruppeM intake. He is saying that if GruppeM made a pipe there may actually be a 15 hp gain. That 15 is not to the wheels though. Injen is making 4 according to their dyno
http://www.injen.com/webpages/testin...les/RD1985.gif
GruppeM is suppose to be making 7-9 (we will have to see and wait for the dynos) BUT according to many other forums out there and car fanatics, people say that GruppeM intakes are probably the best out in the market. Also CF housing is cooler after I drive my car vs. the stock one, which tells me that it's probably keeping the air cooler inside also.
