GruppeM CF intake
Hmmn. I have a front licensse plate. Do you think the scoop will be blocked by the front plate ? Can't tell exactly where it sits from that pic. Any chance you can post one from slightly farther away so I can judge that ?
Thanks.
Thanks.
React3 can you take a pic of you Ram Air like I did? I used all of the brackets provided by Gruppe M.
35 ounces - I think the liscence plate will only cover partial part if any at all. Is you plate attached to your bumper or did you get the holder? I will try to post pics up later, my car is at home and I'm at work.

The Ram is slightly facing down, in which water will just come right off. I don't think it's that easy for water to go all the way up into the intake, unless you are driving thru a river. The Air box itself is not toltally sealed and there's a hole facing the bottom.

rodH - You probably can make a ram air to your stock box, and probably will see a very minimal if not no gain from that. The CF, like many others out there, are just preference. It doesn't mean we are going to drive our cars with our hood open, or right after we park our cars open the hood. And yes it's pricy...blah blah...but if you look at it that way there are a lot of things for a car that you can get the job done in a really cheap way. Heck you can even dress you car in cardboard and say that's your kit! Like I said preference, and just because some of us like CF I feel like you dont' have to come down on us like that. If you like it GREAT! If you don't, GREAT don't get it. I don't see why people have to be so opinionated about everything. BTW injen/aem intakes are nothing but a pipe and a filter. Which can't cost more than $50 to actually make it.
Mike was referring the 15 hp gain comment about the GruppeM intake. He is saying that if GruppeM made a pipe there may actually be a 15 hp gain. That 15 is not to the wheels though. Injen is making 4 according to their dyno

GruppeM is suppose to be making 7-9 (we will have to see and wait for the dynos) BUT according to many other forums out there and car fanatics, people say that GruppeM intakes are probably the best out in the market. Also CF housing is cooler after I drive my car vs. the stock one, which tells me that it's probably keeping the air cooler inside also.

btw, I don't have a AEM or injen either (yet) for that vert reason. The actual filters cost less than $5 from china and the tubing doesn't add that much, so your $50 estimate is quit high.
I am not ripping those that buy this product, I am just frustared that there isn;t a plasric/affordable version for those of us that don't care about teh CF, BUT still would like the performance.
I'm not saying aftermarket prices aren't expensive. I know they are, but in a business perpective that is just what us the consumers have to deal with.
In any case, I hope you find what you are looking for out there. Everyone has their unique style, likes/dislikes about any perticular part.

did anyone in the US do a baseline and post install dyno on this yet? if not, I guess we'll be the first - should have it posted by the end of next week.
Pending the results, we will be stocking the itme too *but only if it makes the claimed power).
Granted, dyn'ing an intake as a standalone mod on a dyno is not the most effective means of testing, so I hope to also supplement the dyno runs with a sample of G tech runs as well, jsut to give people and idea on real world performance gains.
As for the price, yes its quite expensive, no doubt. However, like the CF treatment, the pice is one of gruupe-M's tademarks so to speak. In the BMW and NSX realm, this is the intake to have bar none. Have not seen it on manhy Porsche's yet, but plan on askiing the local Porsche tuner once mine is in next week.

A big part of the benefit of this intake is the ram scoop whihc is not going to dyno unless maybe you have a really big fan in front of it
Anxious to see your results.
Also, if you can let me know if the scoop is blocked by a front license plate that would be helpful too. Thanks.

Well, just finished doing mine - took about 2 hours total, 1 person (one of our employees). Very nice fitting product overall, defiantely please with it. Car has a nice throaty note now at WOT - like stock, but magnified. We will be doing the dyno next week on it (this is all I have modded since my dyno earlier this week. So far, all my mods have been suspension related (and styling), so this will give a good indication of what its worth on the dyno as a standalone mod. I think on the road it may perform a bit better, since no fan used at a dyno can replicate real world air movement, volume, but we'll have to see!.
As for the rubber hose, I think its actually pretty important - it goes around one of the A/C lines.
Next up will be exhaust

JWTs pop charger adds little hp, in fact has lost hp on some tests.
I suppose your question will depend on whether this one makes power or not. If it makes at least 10 at the wheels I would say yes

Adam, I'm sorry I missed you at the XXTuning dyno day - I didnt realize you were there. Would have liked to see your setup and exactly what that rubber hose does
In any case did you see gains on the dyno from the Gruppe-M ?

David, check out this thread I asked the same question

subsequently to that, I met up with the president of the company.. got to say they take their stuff seriously and it appeared that they do thorough R&D on their products.. as for HP gain just keep in mind that the some of the numbers floating around might be in comparison to a stock jdm z which has a more restrictive intake versus the us spec..

Thanks. I saw that. I also got a chance to see Ultimate1's Gruppe-M intake recently. Its really a nice looking piece. Very well made and the carbon fiber is top notch not like some of the pieces you see around these days.
As far as numbers, I've yet to see anything terribly convincing regarding CAI's of any kind from any vendor.
