Angry Injen Exhuast/CAI

Had both installed by a local performance shop. CAI was Ok but now the idle is a little rougher. Maybe the word hate is too strong but that's how I feel about the Injen exhaust. They sound like a Honda with a stove pipe exhaust. Even with the center tail pipe section intalled they are too loud. I also dont' like the flaired tips and the angle from the back. I plan to just go back to stock, unless there is something else more like the stock sound with HP gains. I was looking for HP not an import noise.

heh, if you don't like the angled tips, why did you buy them in the first place? i automatically scratched it off my list when i saw those pipes.

Mike, saw them at the web site--not on a Z--didn't realize they were that angled. However, the stove pipe sound is my biggest issue. I heard the clips from the Z magazine site and the only one that sounded better than stock was the Borla. I keep wondering if the shop can custom make me a straight pipe but maybe I better off just eating the $$'s and go back to stock. I wish I saw the Z article before I purchased mine. I got hung up on the HP gains. Also, should have asked for photo's from members--haste makes waste.

I just got my Inejn SES exhaust and CAI installed today and I am so glad that I didn't pay any attention to threads like this when I was deciding on an exhaust. Idle is fine. The sound is deep and rich (totally opposite of any Honda exhaust) and the angled look in the rear is amazing. I stopped by my dealership afterwards and the entire service dept. was going crazy over the Injen setup. My only problem is that the installer installed the Injen CAI without using the tube that extends it lower so that it sits in front of grill. Instead it is where the JWT popcharger sits (right where the stock air box was. SInce the shop did the entire CAI install for free as well as the exhasut, I didn't make a big deal about it, but I am planning on bringing it to my friend's shop to fix it so that it sits lower so that it catches more air. Does anyone else think that the CAI is being rendered uselss in this location???

Here is a picture I just took of the CAI in the dark...I will post full pics of the exhasut in daylight later...

I too was a bit turned off by the boomyness, and people told me to wait a couple weeks. Sure enough, after it burned in, it quieted down. Now, I'm glad I kept it. As far as the angles, I like the 'Attitude'.

I don't think it's useless, a lot better and cleaner looking that that stock airbox, with the restrictive piping.

The stock airbox does not have restrictive piping. Talk to Doug or VandyZ at Crawford.

I've decide to keep it--don't want spend more installation money to switch back to stock or another type like Borla. The shop suggested that I install the center sections that came with the unit--which will lower the noise level. However, won't that impact the HP? Also, they don't seem real easy to take out and put back in, i.e. for the track. I couldn't line up the tail pipe holes and mid section holes. Thoughts?

Default Straight pipes

Didn't I read somewhere that Injen was coming out with straight pipes (not angled) sometime soon?

Turcoupe-I had mine setup like that and it turned my Service Engine Soon light on and off randomly. Get it installed properly and you'll notice a difference. On a side note, try to bolt the metal extension pipe to your bumper instead of using the factory clips.

awssumz-Your exhaust will sound deeper when you put more miles on it. There is a difference in sound when compared to sitting in the car and being outside the car under load. Try to have a friend drive it and just follow him, I think you'll appreciate the output better.

SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE, DO NOT INSTALL THE SILENCERS!!!!

THROW THEM AWAY AND DON'T EVEN TRY TO INSTALL THEM YOURSELF. TRUST ME, YOU WILL NOT LIKE THE OUTCOME!!!!!

SO, PLEASE PLEASE, DON'T PUT THEM IN!!!!!

After 1000 miles the exhaust really mellows out below 5K. However it still screams above 5K at WOT.

MGV156, not sure I understand your point on the SILENCERS. I just plugged them in and the sound seemed better.

However, my concern is the HP impact. If I kill the HP gain from stock--what's the point. I've kind of gotten use to the look and sound with the silencers--I would have chosen a straight pipe like Borla but that's 20/20 hindsight.

awssumz-my issue w/ the silencers is that i couldn't remove them after hearing how it sounded. if you listen carefully at idle behind your car, the sound seems like your engine is struggling to breath. it's due to the stagnant exhaust that's trapped by the silencer. as a result, i spoke w/ ryan over at injen and he told me they would discontinue shipping the system w/ silencers due to the problem i experienced.

Thanks for the reply. I just got mine--wonder why they shipped them with the silencers if they are a problem. So bottom line you sugget remove them and live with the louder exhaust note?

Default Photos?

Could someone post some a/some pictures of the Injen system? Maybe showing these "silencers". I am trying to decide between the Injen and Borla.

awssumz-yes, just live w/ the exhaust w/out the silencers. injen told me that the gunmetal material expands from the heat and causes it to get stuck. i should've taken a picture of mine before i shipped it back to them. i tried removing them by drilling holes to weaken the outside diameter and then pull it out w/ some pliers but it didn't work. instead, they shipped me a new set and had the rear sections installed. that is awesome customer service from injen.

CMC-don't have a picture of mine when I had the silencers on but here's a diagram that will give you an idea.

I guess it's too late for me to pull the silencers out. I've had them in for three days and they are stuck big time. Tried all different ways to get them out--no deal. It pisses me off that Injen ships them with the silencers and now they are a technical problem. I had this done by a high end shop for a fairly heavy install cost and now I'm apparently in a bind.
