I think it really depends on how thorough the shop doing the emissions test is. Just because a part isn't CARB approved doesn't mean it won't pass emissions, it just means the manufacturer didn't go through the steps to get approval. I know the place I take my car would never put it on the lift just to check whether the cats have a CARB number stamped on them.

I haven't read of any HFC's failing the sniffer tests where they actually attach the machine to the vehicle and measure the emission levels.

Has anyone had problems getting emissions checked?
If you get a tune for the ECU does this possibly help?
since you do not live in california, you do not need to worry about CARB at all. you also do not live in a state that worries about CARB regualtions either so that makes it better for you

Just a note for future reference: regional posts are best answered in the appropriate regional forum.

I don't see how this is a regional question nationally were all required federally to keep car emission legal.
yeah, but CARB is not a national/federal standard, just for California and a few slelect states that have adopted that standard.

so you go nothing to worry about CARB certification since it means nothing to yoru state

They'll pass,

...and unless you go to the dealer for inspection the inspection station will never know they're there. Most mechanics aren't even going to know what an OEM cat looks like compared to a HFC.

If I move and the state that I move to requires a check wouldn't it matter, so why so hung up on what state I'm in. I could be transfered or move at any point.
I was just trying to find out whether the HFC's would pass or not. Before I dump money into something that I would have to remove and reinstall every year.
those companies did that to be able to sell their product in california, nothing more. so like i said, unless you are living in california you got nothing to worry about. but if you are that hung up on whether it will pass or not i suggest you just keep it stock then.
