I really want to retain my stock strut bar, and get the plenum. Either way I'll buy it, even if I have to get rid of the strut bar, but if I get a steel plate (I believe their called flanges/spacers) to raise the stock strut bar, will I have enough clearance between the raised strut bar, and the hood?

I can't think of a way of trying this without shutting the hood, and finding out.. and I don't want to do that because if for any reason the bar is too high, my hood could possibly damage.

If anyone has any idea's suggestions or concerns with this idea, please express them.

 

Good thinking... unfortunately it will hit the hood.

If you look closely at our plenum, you'll notice a VERY minor notch in the forward area. This is to keep it from hitting one of the supports that is integrated into the hood.

 

If you're dead-set on trying this, hook up a webcam to a laptop (with a light source) and slowly lower the hood to see where the touch points are.

 

I suggested to Ricky that he place some puddy on top of the strut tie to test the clearance before attempting spacers, but since Doug has already chimed in, it seems that we already have an answer.

strategicly placed play-doh or clay works too. just put a bunch of pointy peices of clay around where you think the contact might occur, then close/open and look to see which points were smashed down.
