I'm not sure that you're aware of this but paper filters are able to catch more dirt when new versus oiled cotton. However, oiled cotton flows air at much higher cfm. The filter abilities of both are so close that more people prefer the oiled cotton because of the added cfm flow. Paper, though filters more dirt, it also loses it's ability to flow cfm fairly soon when it gets dirty, unlike the oiled cotton ones. So this is a hit on performance.
