Default Considering Straight Pipes. Good or Bad Idea?

I'm considering getting straight pipes. Would obv be illegal but would sound mean as hell.

Anyone here ever did this before? What can I expect in terms of police/law?

edit: sorry i didn't realize this post might have tricked people into thinking I wanted test pipes. I'm talking about a muffler delete with straight pipes to the tips.

I'm guessing you're running a stock exhaust?

I run straight pipes out to my turboxs single 3 inch catback....they are loud and only raspy when cold...when it warms up they aren't raspy at all.

I got the ebay specials they were like $55 shipped, also get the 02 foulers because your z will throw a code (mine did after 1500 miles). But i've been running them for....I dunno a year now, no issues.

I run kinetix......15k miles, no cel (and I bought them used). Do yourself a favor and stay away from ebay. More than likely they will crack within a few thousand miles. Spend 150-200 on a name brand and have peace of mind. I am replacing them now though with another set that is 2.5".

guess you didn't read my post.

20k miles on the cheapest test pipes known to a 350z and only issue was a code which was fixed by fouler's....

Perhaps I you didn't read mine? I said more than likely (not certain) will crack and have some peace of mind. I never had any issues with cels.

A friend of mine has straight pipes with two exhaust tips on one side with stock cats and stock headers. It sounds f'king amazing with no rasp. Roars just cruising and at idle.

I used to have Strup test pipes. At first i thought it was cool because of the sound and the power it gave. After two years of driving with the rasp and the drone;not to mention the exhaust fumes, i have finally had enough of the annoyance and got rid of it for a set of Berk Metallic HFC with my Amuse setup. Sounds absolutely amazing with no rasp and no more fume smell..........

I have Helix V2 test pipes with nonfoulers. They sound great on stock exhaust.

Wait, are you talking about test pipes or straight pipes? By straight pipes I mean removing the muffler and getting straight pipes to the tips

Sorry I didn't specify, but I don't mean test pipes.

Again, sorry I didn't specify, but I wasn't referring to test pipes.

No no sorry for the confusion lol. I plan on keeping everything stock. No I am not reffering to test pipes and I do not want test pipes. I'm talking about having the muffler cut and then having the tips welded with a straight pipe to the exhaust. Basically a muffler delete.

So, now that I cleared that up, anybody have any input?

I saw a huge thread on muffler deletes that helped but it had nothing about how they did it, what the after effects were, and what police/legal issues were brought up.

Holy loud. In MD you might make it around the corner before the fix it tickets accumulate by the dozen per mile. I don't know how strict NJ is, but I would assume it is similar. It would be too much for me to listen to everyday, but if you can take the noise......go for it.

You really think so? A guy in the muffler delete thread posted a few videos of the sound and it wasnt that loud. It sounded like it had an aftermarket exhaust, just a little bit louder and raspier...

I'm just worried about whether it will be a pain in the *** to reverse in case I don't like the sound or it gets ticketed...
