Test pipes without bracket ?
I bought JVT-R Test pipes.
I went to my local exhaust shop to get it install.
Once the car was lift, the guy told me that he had to weld brackets to my test pipes to make sure they connect to the transmission support.
Total cost = 200 CAN$ ( 170 US)
Is that right or I must simply get TP's with the bracket already welded on.
If so, which brand.
Thanks.

You should have saved that guy some time by telling him not to weld on brackets..
you don't really need those.. I think I read somewhere that said the bracket eventually puts more stress onto the pipes+headers somehow.. lol

I have Ichiba pipes and they didn't have a bracket. At my dealer the GTR tech helped me on the side with the install cause he couldn't do it there and he said I actually don't need it. He didn't say it was better for more or less stress but the stock pipes need it for the extra weight. These pipes were so light that they don't.

.... as far as the brackets... i have them on my Titeks and they cracked and so did my flange at the rear section... i'm assuming it's because of the stress from that bracket. you shouldn't need it....i'd say better/safer without

My Kinetix Test Pipes only weigh 10lbs combine, as supposed to 35lbs combine by the OEM CATS. I say the only reason that the OEM CATS came with brace support is because they were so damn heavy to begin with. No need for brackets on TP's IMO.
*Unless you have a Nismo exhaust, then they will get cracked no matter what.

I have jvt. Once i had mine installed i welded a small bracket to them after i bolted the bracket to the original brace.
I doubt it's needed but it didn't take me an extra 10 minutes to add that to it.
Did yours line up? mine didn't line up at all and i had to modify my borla cat back exhaust big time to get those test pipes in there. The rear o2 sensors pointed partially down and i had to weld new o2 bungs pointing slightly up so they would'nt drag the ground. I guess they were cheap for a reason.
