Hollowing out the cat

I've been saving and I'll have enough for a 350Z next month, but I won't have money to spend on exhaust, test pipes or any other mods I was interested in. I know test pipes add a good amount of hp but I'm not gonna have money for it, but then my brother gave me an idea....
But my brother, (who has a 1987 Porsche 944) realized his cat converter is clogged and he is going to hollow the whole thing out to fix the problem.
Isn't that basically a free way to get the extra hp brought on by a test pipe? Couldn't I do that to my Z when I get it?

Dont hollow out your stock cats. If you ever need to replace them, they are very expensive.
If you are that short on cash, you can buy really cheap test pipes on ebay. If the day ever comes where you have to put your stock cats back on... you will be glad you didn't destroy them.

Honestly, if you are that strapped for cash, the test pipes made by Z1 Motorsports are dirt cheap, cheaper than the damage you will do to the car trying to hollow out your cats.
