Default Vids of MD Single Shockwave at AutoX

I had my first Autocross of the season yesterday and took some video. Most of the runs were recorded from in the car, but I had a guy video my last run from outside. It is just a Flipshare HD camera (great video, not great audio) but you can get an idea of how the Single Shockwave))) sounds on a stock Z. I do have a K&N drop-in but that is it.

PS: Try to ignore the poor driving. The reason I'm recording my runs is to try and do a post review and see how I'm screwing up.

Internal video, windows down. Worst run of the day as I hit a cone.

External recording of my last run (not my best).

+1 on the feeling of getting lost. Also after you go and watch your fist auto-x you feel better about it.

Nice! Sounds just like mine! Which Y-pipe do you have (straight, resonated, cat)?

I registered 96dB at the track last week in the middle of 4th gear - 3rd gear WOT is much louder. I have stock cats on as well and the resonated pipe from MD.

For anyone interested, here is a complete write-up with videos:

Agreed. In car videos of autocross make it look a lot more confusing than it really is. Once you go, walk the course, and do it once or twice, you won't get lost. You can tell in the first video that I almost went the wrong way around a cone at about 17 seconds into the vid. You can see that little twitch in the steering wheel as I said to myself "Oh **** you idiot, not that way."

MD XYZ pipe with the straight pipe. Stock cats. The sucker is really loud and sounds amazingly fun at high rpm. It is bearable on the freeway between 75 and 80 mph. The drone is horrendous at 60mph on the freeway.

I tried it with the cats OFF for awhile - it was REALLY FRIGGING LOUD. This isn't the best vid, but you can get an idea of it with no cats:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/O8u56FNIuiE&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/O8u56FNIuiE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Watch this video at the 1 minute mark from the same day to see how loud (again, no cats) it is from the outside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8mfecZDjDY

I have since put them back in, which was an attempt to pass sound at Laguna Seca. I still failed though.

I can't imagine what it would be like in person with test pipes. The tone of the exhaust at higher revs is very sweet though.

Do you have the resonated section or the straight pipe with the XYZ? Would that make a difference you think?

I have the resonated pipe with the XYZ. Tony said it's quieter, and makes a little more low-end torque than the straight pipe. He also said the straight pipe was VERY loud. I can't imagine it with test pipes!

I ran mine with test pipes but with the resonater section for a while, WOW it was loud. People 2 cars ahead of me on the track said they couldn't hear their own car.
