Default How do you quiet interior sound from exhaust?

I have the Motordyne resonated Gamma Shockwave exhaust and it's a little too loud inside the car, but I love the way it sounds outsided the car. Would addingn DynaMat or something similar to the hatch area or to the entire interior floor area front and back help? Trying to find a solution without having to buy a new axle back section since Motordyne is expensive and I do like what I have, just want a quieter interior. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you don't want to put up with the noise you make, but want everyone else to "enjoy" it and notice you as you cruise around...

Nice.

Adding weight to a sportscar to quiet an exhaust is just dumb. Get a new exhaust that doesnt drone or live with your purchase.

I like the way it sounds its just a littke loud inside. I enjoy the exhaust just want it a little quieter inside. I know adding dynamat would add weight thas why I thought about doing it in the hatch only. Plus this car is my daily driver not a track car or weekend car. The question was simply put: would dynamat help reduce interior noise from the exhaust? It was a simple curiosity question. I never said I didn't like my exhaust I just said I want it a little quieter inside the cabin. If you don't like the idea then don't post anything if you can give constructive critisism then please post.

Dont pull the noob ******** and try to tell people when to post and when not too.
As for the dynamat it could help it will be hard to tell until you actually do it. Cant know for sure which frequencies are bothering you in the car so its hard to know whether the dynamat would really do much. Just doing the hatch area i would say probably not much difference, if you combined it with some other items for absorbing sound you would have a much better shot but it would get more expensive and just add more weight. Have you looked into motordyne ART pipes? Some people have been said that they will help reduce drone havent used them though so i cant say for sure. Motordyne shockwave V2 also has just about no drone from what people have been posting, so thats an option if you were to want to sell the gamma.

From what you described means its too loud. As time goes on its going to become even less tolerable. Dynamat will only reduce it maybe a db or 2 and thats if you get it in the key areas

^^ not always true you can get really bad drone from a typically quiet exhaust. Or not much drone at all from a really loud exhaust.

Like the guy above said, ART pipes would help to reduce that drone. On my 00 Celica GT-S the exhaust was 2.5 straight pipe and was extremely loud. To quiet it down, I used Fatmat(dynamat knockoff) and it quieted it down a good bit. I basically did the trunk floor and the floor of the interior under the seats. It really isn't all that heavy for what people say it is, nothing that really matters or affects anything and it will reduce cabin noise

Thanks. From what Tony at motordyne told me the ART pipes are his new high flow cats. If I can find someone with the new v2 shockwave that wants it louder then I would trade their axle back sectio s or sell them to someone who has v1 with the straight axle back section who wants to tone it down some. I'm not trying to pull any noob ****, just some common courtesy is what's wanted. When someone asks a question you answer it or give suggestions and help the person you dont talk down to them. It doesn't matter if you're a noob or a vetran everyone deserve some common courtey.

honestly i dont think dynomate is going to fully get ride of the problem. My brother Z had tp aam y and the nvidia n1 exhaust. Boy it shook the house and the drone inside was NUTS. Now he got the god speed exhaust(replica), it good dd but when he opens it up sounds rather nice.

the way i get ride of my drone is with the subs , although my cat back was made for quietness. Also do you go to the car meets?

headers hfc y pipe single exit, no silencer, no drone. It's the shockwave tip man, that is incredibly loud. Just be thankful you dont have the agency power...

guys, this post comes from 15 years of prev experience building sound off vehicles. Weight wasnt such an issue as the stereo and architecure alone usually brought the trucks up twice what the truck did stock ( not really but still).... dynmat ( the classic dynamat) will NOT affect low frequency noise at all. It wont even muffle the wheel wells ( going over gravel roads etc). It is mean purely to add weight to metal panels to change thier sympathetic resonance... ie, like a wine glass vibrating on its own at certian ferquiencies. You can get rid of SOME trunk rattle w it as its a big sheet tying several pieces of sheet metal together, but still..its meant to add weight and lower that frequency and get rid of humming.

Grey felt padding ( look like half an inch of dryer lint) undercarpet padding is the best bet, cheaper, and can be layered to assit. Theres some hi end stuff w layers of foam etc avail from dbynamat etc... but it will be an expensive waste of time and money if your trying to block your exh note w asphalt sheeting like dynamat...

The panles behind your seat ( all of them) can use some felt pad behind it..but its gna be around 20 lbs.. and everyone else is right. ....try pulling out your psare tire and see what a diff it makes in your performance feel... its alot. Weight reductuion on these cars is essential to making it feel zippy. its not a v8, so weight causes issues.

Just my 8 cents. Hope it helps or at least saves u some headache and money.

I go to the meets that I can and the only time I ever heard the motordyne gamma was on a track. My other choice was either the Stillen or Injen with the Injen preffered

I listened to sound clips on line but it doesn't do the real thing justice. Also I got a good deal on the motordyne so that's why I got it

Put sound deadening in the tire well and over the humps for the wheels. I think that should help quite a bit plus itll lower road noise which is rediculous in the Z.

The v2 shockwave from Motordyne is just brilliant - loud at WOT and very civil without drone for city driving. Tony has been considering combining it with a gamma muffler to make it even quieter overall - you might want to ask him about that...

You are trying to solve a problem that you created. Put the OEM exhaust back on the car. Or live with it.

I just added some sound deading products to my rear.

Road noise is some what better. But most noticable is the exhaust sound has gone down.

I reccomend Secon Skin Products. This is what I used.
http://www.secondskinaudio.com/

1. Damplifier

2. Luxry Liner Pro

3. Spectrum (You paint it on your exterior wheel wells)

PM if you want some spectrum, cause i ordered one gallon and only used half.
Also have a 20% off coupon they emailed me for Damplifier PRO. Which is suppose to be better the Damplifier i used.
