Opinions on the JIC titanium exhaust
Having just returned from SEMA, I saw as lot of cool stuff for the Z. I really like the JIC titanium single exhaust. Is anyone running this? How is the sound? Any dyno numbers?
I believe it was two piece plus the y-pipe which is only available in stainless. I definately don't was a loud ricer fart pipe, but I really like how light it is. I think the guy said that the exhaust and y-pipe end up being 30lbs lighter than stock.

My buddy Cole has a 94 240SX with RB20DET motor in it. He has the JIC 505 Ti exhaust. Its fully Ti, slip fit. 2 Piece. The muffler and the piping. The hangers are not welded on, they are bracketed on. It is very high quality. It does not emit a ricey raspy sound. Very deep mellow throaty sound. Then again it is turbo and an inline-6 but, if you heard wicked4u2c's Single outlet HKS exhaust, it will be similar sounding to that I imagine.

The reason you get that sound you are talking about on your friends S2000 is because its a 4 cylinder. Any 4 cylinder with a straight through design exhaust system is going to sound like ***. Its just the nature of the motor. Our 6 Cylinder has a very distinctive sound, not anything like a 4 cylinder.

I also saw this system in person. Very good piece, and it's very straight thru. It would be a great system for SC or Turbo. And also some one with a lot of NA mod work.
We carry this exhaust system. It should be ready to order after SEMA. Feel free to give us a call.
Other Full Ti. exhaust to consider.
Veilside dual Teardrop. (I was told it sounds like a Corvette Z06 on steroid)
Invidia Duals. (being designed right now) Price should be competitive.

ic, but i just don't see any quality in a slip joint. Nor do i see the benefit of 1mm thick walls, or hollow hangers. I see those as more of a weak point. I know JIC makes a lot of stuff in Taiwan, China and Korea, and some things are made in Japan. Is this particular exhaust made in Japan? I've just never followed the hype on JIC, and i don't understand the hype too, after all in japan JIC is really looked down upon. From what i have personally seen, i can understand why. maybe someone can explain to me what is factually good about JIC exhausts?

why would hollow hangers or 1mm thick walls be a weak point? Ti is strong and it wont rust through. As for the hollow hangers I could see being a problem if you went off-roading and had to worry about it being banged around. But this is street car so all the hangers have to do is with stand the Gforces. The slip joint is there because flanges cause turbulance. As you may know Ti is very difficult to weld so the slip joints and the way the hangers attach make the exhaust easier to manufacture. Also if if you need to replace the muffler later on down the road, You only have to buy the muffler and not the whole system.
Interesting, Ive never heard of JIC being looked down upon in Japan. I always thought they were highly respected. I dunno. I like their stuff, it works, it looks good, sounds good, and it makes power.

well ti is strong & light, but 1mm is pretty thin i believe. Because it is equal in strength to stainless does not equate to using the an unequal ratio of weight to make it just as strong as steel. (i dont think i explained that well, and i dont know how to explain it good) I took Materials class almost 10years ago...
I know that for thier stainless steel they do not use SUS 340. They use 505S SUS which is more likely to rust and is has a lower density than SUS304.Thats why i wanted to find out the grade of titanium they use.
A slip joint is not that desirable, sure it makes it cheap to manufacture, but its a cheap design. It does not create a tight seal, as gas can get through, the less turbulent air there is the better, also meaning the less joints the better it is. There are many titanium exhausts that are welded, and there are full titanium exhausts that are one piece and affordable. I have yet to see one for the z though.

There is nothing wrong with slip fit at all.....its all in the design and manufacture.
JIC is not looked down on in Japan at all...its just not widely used.
As for the manufacturing, nearly EVERYTHING alleged to be made in Japan is not.....even from the "big" firms.
