LOL! Everybody is so damn jumpy. Crawford guys must really hate the competition for accusing this guy of being a complete fraud!!!

I also find it funny that everybody jumped off the crawford bandwagon so quickly when they saw the pix of this plenum!

$1300 sounds kinda high for the plenum-- I'm still sold on the Crawford just because you KNOW waht you get out of the product. I, realistically, don't see this plenum making the power that the crawford does, but who knows. Lets take it easy before making attacks on our Japanese brotha.

I can't tell you if this guy is legit or not, but I can tell you this-if they are in business to produce performance parts they should have answered these 2 predominate questions by now;
1.) How much HP and torque does this produce?

Sorry,I got cut off.
2.) Can you retain the stock strut bar?

These are both readily answerable questions, or should be.

so you are saying procharger and turbo guys won't get thier money's worth from this mod?

i feel this way also, since FI makes positive pressure and all surfaces are feeling pressure equally... path of air is not determined by vacuum...

i think i remember reading that crawford says their plenum is a great addition for FI applications also...

i am not saying it wouldn't help a little for flow, but IMHO, $1200-1300 is a lot for this help.

I also recall someone @ Crawford saying that it helped the Procharger work more efficiently. Something along the lines of it working less hard to produce power.

Hey Guys -

I've been off the board for awhile and periodically lurk a bit , but this thread interests me, so I'll chime in.

I did the laser cutting CAD drawings for the tower brackets that the Crawford strut bar uses. Doug is a friend of mine - I bought his old '77 Z - "Da Beast" - when he bought his 350 13 months ago. BTW, this guy's work on 'Da Beast' changed my life. I smile a lot more these days. Can't wait to see what he's done to the 350 when it's been around for 26 years!!!

That's a nice looking plenum, but I can tell from the photo alone that it won't work with a stock strut bar. I design for a living and am a Z fanatic, so I have been watching the 350's development pretty closely. I personally think Nissan 'reverse engineered' the engine bay of the 350 to a certain degree (I think they designed the body before committing to the engine bay design). Articles that came out in 2002 committed to a body style a long time before news of the powerplant layout came out. They also had to commit this basic configuration to several vehicles. Hell, we got sketches of the Z in its current body style back at the Vegas Z Convention in 2000. I don't KNOW that this is the reason the stock strut bar cuts across the stock plenum, but I think its a pretty good guess, short of some inside intelligence from Nissan.

The Crawford strut bar is placed as close as possible to the front edge of the plenum without actually rubbing on it during engine torque, since the farther forward the strut bar is placed, the less structural value it has. There is no possible way to increase the flow of the stock plenum layout without either eliminating the stock bar or moving it forward. That's what Doug has done.

Watch out for this new plenum guy. He may be legit, but many questions are dangling out there. If he says the plenum shown will fit with a stock strut bar, I'd check to make sure my wallet is still there.

i'm think i'm just gonna give up on this thing...even if it ends up producing like 20 hp or so $1000+ is waay too much for it, imo

Yeah, I had been asking the question of FI and a plenum for forever. They basically said that the plenum added like 5 HP for the procharger. Really, the plenum shouldn't add much power at all to an FI car, just makes sense.

I don't buy the "making the procharger work less". We are talking about boost at the plenum, not at the procharger. Your boost at the plenum would be lower, just doesn't make sense for the procharger to be working less. It should be working the same exact way, cause it has the same pulley.

Instead of spending that much on a plenum for an FI car, just buy some rods so you can turn the boost up and blow the plenum out the water.
