Default High Flow Cats - Crawford or Random Technology?

I am interested in high flow cats for my Z. I have a Borla TD exhaust and an Injen CAI. Crawford and Random Technology seem to be the cats most people are buying. Is one better than the other? Are there any others out there? Trying to make an educated decision. Thanks.

I would never recommend test pipes now since newer model high flow cats gain just as much power without the raspiness.

Ouch!!

I think we should do a test pipe, high flow shootout. All brands invited. A simple, one day comparison between all the brands of high flow cats, test pipes, resonator pipes.

I have read some interesting statements on the benefits of "backpressure".

I would be open to lending some of my stuff to someone if they were willing to host this shootout, I know it would be a lot of work but I think it would benefit the Z community. It would only be beneficial if we got all parties envolved (Crawford set and Random set, etc)

Default Cat's & Test Pipes

Still not answering your question, but do not get the test pipes, or straight through pipes. I nstalled on my 2004 G35 expecting impressive deeper sound, I ran it for half a day, the "raspiness" or better termed rattling near drove me insane, at 60mph in 5th under throttle load, it sound at if the car is going to blow up, there terrible. Considering High Flow cats now, but if they sound anything like the pipes, I'd rather bolt a fake blower on my hood, bout as cheesy.

Not sure if one is really "better" than the other. Sounds like they will both pass emissions, however the Crawfords might be the only ones to pass visual. If you buy other products from Crawford, Doug might treat you well and give a discount. Normal pricing for the two puts Crawford lower than RT to start with. Crawford is a small outfit with a lot of personal pride put into their Z parts. Call me old fashioned, but when there is a comprable product made by a fellow Z fanatic or a large company, I will always support the small outfit that really loves and enjoys what they do. If Crawfords product was inferior it may be a different story but there is no data to prove this otherwise.

Zpirate, I have no personal knowledge on the Crawford high flow cats, so I'll be no help there. However, I have the Injen CAI and Borla True Dual Exhaust and just recently added the Random Technology high fLow cats and an Insaneamine grounding kit. RT cats = BEST INVESTMENT in an after market product yet! The Z sounds awesome and performance has noticably improved. The set up (atleast for me) is perfect, although there are a few more mods to be done before spring.

Default RT hi-flow cats

I can't do a comparison for you, since I have never driven a car with the Crawford cats, but I do have the RT cats and Crawford plenum in my car. I think you will be happy with the RT cats.

There's a new kid on the block too by Ultimate Racing (mine are going in either tomorrow or Monday, just need to get some gaskets from the dealership). Uses high flow Magnaflow cats, and has the proper mounting bracket.

After our test fit we'll be posting these up for sale . they are also available with an optional polished finish (since they are full stainless), though it gets so dirty so quickly under there, I opted for the naked stainless look

I'd post pics but imagestation is being very slow right now

I think both do the job well. I purchased the RT mainly because it has a cleaner look.

How often do you get under the car to admire the cats?

Alot lately, but your right. its just that I like it to look nice. planning on also buying a TI exhaust ,. I am sure that the other do the job just as well but if your going to do it and can get the looks all around why not.

I think this would be a good idea. At the same time all the high flow cats could be emission tested as well.

Perhaps the person who goes to the trouble of organising it all gets to keep the product of their choice?
