Default How do you pick which exhaust to go with?

There are already almost 10 different cat-back exhausts to go with for the 350z if not more. Which ones do you recommend? Is Borla any good? I want a deep throaty sound while accelerating, but I definitely do not want that loud annoying drone/hum heard while cruising at highway speeds.

How big of a difference is there between using just a drop in K&N air filter versus a complete cold air intake. If it is just a matter of like 2 or3 HP then I would rather use just the drop in filter to avoid the risk of getting water into the intake. Any info on this?

Thanks

If you are buying an exhaust for sound, choose one by listening to the different choices. If you get an exhaust for the right reason, you will define your goals and get a system (custom or prefab) that suites your needs. In order to find answers to your CAI and where to listen to exhausts, use the damn search.

do not listen to sound clips.....the only thing it will do is confuse you

try and here any that you can in person...i bought the injen cause i heard it in person....when i heard it on the sound clip it didnt sound anything like it did in person

people have been favoring the nismo, borla and injen

and others but not as much....the injen and nismo are loud...im not sure how loud the nismo is though

NONE sound ricey....unless you equate loud with rice

buying the Injen is a good buy..but you might crave some peace and quiet now and then

well yeah in person is better. I was just being practical. Anyways, if you want my opinion, get a custom built exhaust. I think most of the ones out sound too, uh, cheesy to me. I like the NISMO sound but come on, an exhaust has to allow the motor to make power. Make sure you define your goals before you mod. That is the most important step. If listening to sound clips confuses you, you may need to see a doctor.

what i meant is that they confuse me after i hear the exhaust in person.because it doesnt sound the same on the comp

custom built exhausts dont guarantee everything..but if you know exactly what you want its the best bet

I will just buy the counter part of the racing exhaust that was used in the major race in Japan. For example, Apex't N1, or Greddy's Racing Exhaust.

I've got the NISMO and Love it! I've heard a bunch of after market exhausts in person and everyone is unique in it's own way. in sound and look.
If you can hook up with another Z owner in your area that has an after market exhaust and check it out. A 350z Meet/Run is a great place to check out a bunch of Z's together.

I would say try to consider some points below as they might help in narrowing down the list of systems.

1. planning to upgrade the cats/headers? (these would impact the sound/loudness)

2. FI in the future and if so what type, since turbos would also affect the sound/loudness and for which a larger dia pipe might be helpful

3. consider that some exhaust systems do not come with y-pipes or with flex points in the y-pipes

4. interest in possibly adding a rear diffuser, some systems would make this difficult to achieve

5. priority on weight reduction, some single units can help here

but if you are not inclined to spend too much time pondering the above I also would recommend the nismo exhaust.. it sounds great in person

also keep in mind that some systems are still(rumoured) to be introduced (ARC and Greddy for example)

Have problems opening an AVI file ? thats all I got.
whats wrong with your PC ? AVI files are pretty standard. I would email the files to you if you'd like but not sure that will do you any good. maybe you could veiw the files at a buddies house.

I'll tell you the NISMO is awesome! I went with it without hearing it. So many Z owners on this forum have it and I dont think anyone that has it does not like it. it's a sure thing. I usually drive with my windows down just to hear it. Go for it!
