Default Exhaust N00B

I don't know much at all about exhaust and was wondering if anyone would like to share their wisdom. Obviously there is a lot but i would appreciate anything you can teach me.

I dont plan on leaving my Z stock for too long, and would like to start with exhaust (headers, maybe no cat, new catback system) But i don't understand the difference between the many configurations (straight pipes, x pipes, etc) and different brands.

Open to recommendations and opinions....Thanks for your help

i suggest you do the research yourself. Look up different exhaust brands, and hear clips on youtube. For starters, its headers, tp/hfc/cats, y/x pipe, mid pipe, then muffler/tips.
