so i know this might be a dumb question but i want to just buy a K&N air filter not a cold air and one friend of mine says go for it theyre good and another friend of mine says that theyre garbage and will let dirt in the engine who should i listen to
An intake is only going to make the difference of about 5hp on a good day so your best bet is to just get an intake that is going to make yur car sound good and keep yur engine clean.
I bought two for the 370Z. Wash and oil every 10,000 miles. In the long run its a money saver over OEM filters. These filters will last the life of the car.
I have the JW pop charger in mine and wouldnt go any other way. Makes the car sounds awesome at high idle and i noticed a big difference on pull even thought it was a 10+ HP increase.
I would be highly surprised if a dyno showed anything more than 2-5 HP to the wheels with a PopCharger. But they look and sound good. Pretty sure I saw a thread a few years back that showed the best gain on the DE was with a K & N drop in though, still only 5 HP at best.

you basically just stated "it's pointless to buy a full intake because you won't see much power gains, but buy a complete intake anyways!"
OP, just grab a k&n air filter and call it a day. no need to spend $2-300 on a brand new cold/short air/ram intake even though 80% of the users on here probably have.
