Default fram air filter...my dad bought me one yay or nay?

i'm not really into engine mods, i debated on an intake down the road. but i thought i read on here people not liking fram. is there anything wrong with putting it in?

anyways if someone can link me to something reasonably priced that i can order online that is reputable on this forum i'll go ahead and order that, or order it for next time

thanks

Unless you are talking about something I have never heard of, Fram is just an OE replacement filter. You're not going to see any kind of change in performance. Spend a few extra dollars and get yourself a K&N drop in filter and call it a day. Why is your dad buying you air filters randomly?

But if your Dad already bought an air filter, why not use it? Fram is known for making mediocre oil filters, but their air filters are most likely paper elements (like OEM). I'd suggest you check your air filter and if it's dirty, replace it with the Fram. It'll provide good service for a year or so, before it needs to be changed out.

If you're sticking with the OEM cold air intake (not a bad idea, as the factory design is quite good), you might consider getting a K&N drop-in filter when the Fram wears out. The advantage is you can clean the K&N, let it dry, re-oil and reuse it many times over. You'll need to buy their recharge kit and learn to use it, but K&N offers a better value.

Fram has the absolute worse reputation for filters. I wouldn't risk using one even if it was free.

LOL, it's a paper filter just like OEM. How bad can it be? Too funny.

And you can prove this was due to the air filter?

I wouldn't use them on my Z but I have used Fram filters on plenty of other cars without ever having an issue.

I avoid FRAM oil filters, but their air filters aren't terrible.

I use their synthetic oil filter's and it looks just as good as the Mobil One filter. None of my engines have blown up so far so good. LOL

Seriously, do you think just because two filters are made of the same material (i.e. paper) they are equivalent in build quality, filtration ability and flow rate?

I have seen FRAM oil filters disinigrate on the inside putting all that metal baxk knot an engine and have seen tests showing there subpar filtration of oil. I will never put one on anybof my cars
I was warned of them by a few mechanics as well.

As far as thier air filters i have never done.any research of mybown but based on my knowledge of thiwr oil filters i would not use them simply out of principle. I use k&n oil filters on the z and my truck fwiw

LOL, no, I don't know the exact material. However, I do know I've used them before on my DD and my car was no worse for the wear. Granted, I don't use them on my performance cars and I understand why people would be reluctant. With that said, if you are changing your air filter every 10,000 to 15,000 like you should then it's a non issue.
