Thumbs up 12/31 Stillen Exhaust

For anyone stressed out about new exhaust, here is my impressions of the Stillen I got installed on 12/31/03. First off I’m not a gear head so HP and dynos numbers were probably second to sound and fit. The Stillen are expensive but for the money you get excellent craftsmanship/fit, and the latest version with the rolled and finished tips look awesome. At startup the sound is considerably lower tone than stock and I would say about twice as loud. Revving the engine while parked is not to impressive but is better sounding. Downshifting does not produce any rumble or popping sounds, in fact its a non-event. Cruising is quite and comfortable. Under load is where these babies kick in, and you can definitely hear them over a fully cranked stereo (sounds good). I would say overall the sound is not quite what I expected but is what I wanted. If you like the sound of the stock exhaust, like I do, you will not be disappointed. Oh, and by the way, my butt dyno says these exhaust kick *** especially in second gear.

Thx for the review. I really like this exhaust for the gains (best on the market?) and a sound like stock but more aggressive under load. Stillen is in my area and can't wait to pick them up myself.

I really like it. It looks well crafted. The welds are clean. Looking from behind, it looks kind of stealth. The tips look good, but not fancy. But you defently see the polish canister that is hidden underneath.

When you turn on the car, you get a little roar. It is a different tone from the stock. Think of stock tone but 10 to 20 percent lounder and a little deeper. (whoa that sounds strange)

Normal driving, you can't really tell if you have it in the car. You can also hear music or have conversations while driving at regular speeds (3500 rpm and under) without yelling.

Now when you mash on the pedal. The car creates a mean attitude. Not to deep but a loud roar. The car sounds mean 3500 rpm and above. Even at 6000 the sound does not drown out, its just screaming.

For power that something left to a dyno. I dunno. But I feel it pull a little more throughout the power band. I needed more of a different sound from my car, thats why I got it.

I believe that you have a choice of 2 tip styles now. Haven't looked into it much further.

The 1st version does not have the rolled tips (like stock) as the new one. I think it's like 50 bucks more.

Yes, they have added a second choice of Tips. The originals were simple pipes, the new tips are rolled and finished. They are about the same outside diameter as stock but are maybe 2 inched longer and stick out the back about 1/2 inch further. I haven't measured.

I had my Stillen exhaust for about 3 months, maybe more. I have the new tips design.

Here is my opinion.

1. I love the sound. Its deep and smooth, not throaty.

2. As for HP gain, When I first put Stillen I could not feel any difference in power but after puting K & N air filter, I felt little more pull.

3. As for Craftmanship, its great.

4. As for the price, I think its over priced.

Inconclusion, Stillen great exhuast and I really like it but I think its too EXPENSIVE. If I had to buy it agin, I would rather buy Nismo at Performance Nissan & save $250. Nismo is a great exhaust with great craftmanship too just not as much HP.

I have come to the same conclusion. I had them professionally installed which added to the cost even more. I love the sound at 3000rpm and above. I also got good performance increases at those levels. But as for the sound at idle, revving while parked and mild acceleration do little for me. Punching second gear when at 3000rpm is nice.

ssk0771 you made me run out and get the K&N filter. Can't wait to try out the new combo.

Funny, unlike you, I don't feel any difference in performance. I saw all my gains from the new exhaust. But the the K&N filter changed the exhaust note just ever so slightly. I hadn't noticed it previous to installing the filter, but the sound my car was emitting was off key. Now it has perfect pitch. Might have to go ahead and get a new intake to see what that does.
