Default Heads up comparison...Bolt ons/mild tune VS Stock

I thought it'd be nice to have two comparison videos side to side for those wondering what bolt ons does for this car. In my opinion, the 4 bolt ons I have (spacer, test pipes, true dual exhaust, intake (soon to be replaced with stock airbox and K&N,) yield relatively great, NOTICEABLE gains in midrange and top end.

Here's my stock pull to 130 MPH (lol forgive the screaming music):

http://youtu.be/tStff2MdD30

Now here's with Bolt ons and a off the shelf tune from R/T tuning and UpRev..not even a serious dyno tune.

If you notice, the time it takes for me to go to 80-100 is about 8 seconds in the stock video, and barely 4 seconds in the bolt on video.

Same for the 100-130. 8 seconds in the bolt on video and roughly 17 seconds in the stock video. That's around 50% efficiency for both pulls. When the videos were taken, it was around 60 degrees for both of them, and low humidity.

So, the point is, imho, I notice a lot of people say bolt ons don't do a lot for our cars, and for the most part that's correct, they don't do a whole heap..not a lot of 12 second bolt on DE Z's running around, but I mean really, how much is expected out of just breathing mods for our motors?

nice to see comparison like this! 1/4 mile times could also be nice comparison But yep I see the difference

Nicely done Shin. It IS all relative. One can say that when compared to some other cars, the Z does not produce as much with said bolt on's percentage wise but you can say that about any other car right? Now, stock Z vs. bolt on Z with tune...I'll take the bolt on Z all day long.

Maybe my understanding of the physics involved is wrong, but is this really a valid comparison?

In the 1st video, you're basically starting the pull at 80mph....the rate of acceleration is 0 at the start of the measurement (80mph)

In the 2nd video....you're accelerating up to and "through" 80mph....the rate of acceleration is greater than 0 at the start of the measurement (80mph).

I would think that the car in the second scenario would have the advantage, even before you factor mods in...?

You're right! Good thing I had a stock 40-100 on my channel.

Bolt on Z did 40-100 3 seconds faster than stock..which is still a significant improvement.

This is the least scientific comparison ever. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but it's common sense that allowing your car to breathe better will yield gains. We don't need vids from different cars that were taken separately to know this. The 1/4 mile sticky thread and dyno comparisons are better threads. Either way, the difference between stock and bolt-on is not drastic and is barely statistically significant.

erm... am i the only one thinking the slower one could be slightly uphill and the faster one on a downhill? hotter day vs cooler evening? at sea level or up at altitude?

We could say its because you switched to Castrol oil and filled up on Shell gas prior to shooting the bolt on vids.

Bottom line is, a tune is what makes the power come together, without it its just all hoopnanny.
