Greddy Exhaust question

Greddy Exhaust question
Hello guys, when i bought my car it had a greddy exhaust, the one on the pic, i think it's the evo 2. Somehow I didnt though it was loud enough so i proceed to remove the two resonators on the back of it before the exits. It sounded cool until i put my megan HFC's. The car sounded louder now but also was producing a metallic sound and it was in the X where the middle big resonator is, probably due to more flow. So then to remove that noise i proceeded to remove the big resonator and technically i made it a true dual, something like the 2nd picture and at the same to quiet the car a little i welded back the two resonators on the back. now the car is doing a shitty sound like an helicopter when idling at normal temperature. The exhaust basically right now is like the 2nd picture, but i have this crappy sound that i want to get rid of. I have a question 1st, does the flow and sound of the exhaust and performance gets worst if i keep welding or cutting/modifying the exhaust, or that doesnt matter? I will throw a clip in the next days so that you guys can hear the sound, will get back to you and thank you in advance!!!

Whenever you start modifying an exhaust SYSTEM,you will never know
how it will turn out. What have done is a prime example.I am simply
amazed on how the majority of owners fail to understand the purpose
of an exhaust SYSTEM.Its usually the sound it creates that is the draw
not how efficient it is.I'll wager with all the &%...rigging you have done
that you have actually lost HP.Also, gotten a CEL.
Looks like you are on damage control.I recently posted info on a related
situation. My exhaust is pretty much engineered to do its job to the max.
Sound was secondary.I mentioned that there are small tail pipe resonators
that install in your exhaust tips. They are made by Schoenfeld.Summitt
and others carry them. They do not actually quiet your exhaust much but they
allow you to reduce the tone.Furthermore, they are pretty simple.Nothing more
that a short pipe with flared ends, holes with small diffusers .You can also,
pack the area around the center cone to further modify the sound and
possible get the results you want. With all the screwing with your exhaust,
these may be worth a try. They worked on my car.

I have no idea why you decided to chop up the exhaust before figuring out what the real issue was
You have probably ruined it and will end up having to deal with it
If you can get a sound clip up to demonstrate your issue it might help to troubleshoot but most likely this is not going to be the same anymore.

It IS an EVO II. I have the resonators cut out of the rear section as well. Problem started with Megan HFCs. Does the sound make it seem like you are driving a riced out civic? loud farts rattling off metal? If so, that's the sound of "sound" reverberating off the metal. My straightpipes sound like chit when I first start my car and go over 3k in any gear. Luckily it goes away after a few minutes.
It's a great incentive to not speed off from meets or gatherings
Cutting the resonators from the rear is a gamble, but I can always weld them back in if I for some unseen reason change my mind to hate it.
My .02: ditch the HFCs, save for some Motordyne ART pipes(like I'm suffering to do now) and make sure everything is tight and not contacting anything else.
Enter yooootube clips of my exhaust:
Fast forward to 23 seconds in...

I also have the Greddy evo 2 exhaust and that's one of the main reason (looks) why I like it is bc how quiet it is but wakes up at wot. I recently put test pipes on and it sounded like chit. So bad I did not want to drive my car and I'm proud of my car but the rasp is unbearable.
Those who wants their exhaust loud should not take a quiet exhaust and try to make it louder, instead customize a set up from gound up or buy one that is loud from factory.

For people like you is that i have no respect for, if you dont have anything useful to say just F.U.C.K off, cause this ain't your thread. I dont need people to say what i ruined or what i didnt ruined, you havent even heard it for christ sake, but you're so smart/tought guy to be writing craps in other people's threads.
This applies for everyone, i dont mean to disrespect, but the forums are to support each other and make useful apportations, not to be flaming crap from each other cause of this or that, there's a color for everyone in the world, so pick what you like. but leave others alone with their election...
I like how yours sound in the middle tone, but not at wot, it's kinda like mine. Nice car by the way!!!

Video!!!!!
I didnt chopped the exhaust at all, at least the tips remain, lol im joking, right now the exhaust has everything it came with EXCEPT the middle resonator on the picture (could be called an X maybe ) And when I installed the HFC's it started producing the sound on the clip, that it's only at IDLE, i love the sound when running slow or at wot, but the idle sound kills it
THE REASON why i removed the X was because i was having this issue:
i dont know if that's what you guys call rattling, to me rattling means the loud noise on wot usually with the test pipes and some hfc's, if im wrong someone correct me.
Anyway, video here:
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...Krp_dUv6WeVMIE
I guess the sound comes out from excessive compression since now the flow is technically almost unrestricted, i would to know how to kill that sound without affecting my actual exhaust note, I've seen some threads with people speaking about this product http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...rtnumber=11386
or even this one
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...=main&id=11361
so help please...

The CEL came up with the HFC's not the exhaust at all
There was never any issue i bought this car that ALREADY CAME WITH THIS EXHAUST INSTALLED and it was a little quiet for my taste. The issue came after the hf's install and the removal of the X, as for the sound, i like it now, listen to my clip...

The sound is from the absence of your cats. It's that hissing sound you're hearing as the exhaust pressure drops. Youtube 350z test pipes and you will hear tons of hissing noise similar to that. OH and Megans don't make hfc, you probably got Megan RESONATED test pipes. Put cats back on.

- Install resonators somewhere along your exhaust
- Get a custom exhaust silencer (would go along tip) made
- Install an exhaust control valve (lever-controlled)
- Look at Dynamax automatic-valve controlled mufflers as an option
I would consider getting a new exhaust. Not going to flame for your modifications, but you could continue chopping/modifying and still not get the sound you want. Would much rather start new than spend on something you'd be unsure about (the results that is).

Thank you! really appreciate your comment, what exhaust do you recommend? I have a friend that's selling those eBay exhaust (the hks replica) for 200, will that do?

eBay exhausts typically go for $250-$400 new, so if that's a used price I would say it's quite high. Go on YouTube and look around for one with a sound note you like, of course in person it'll sound different but it gives you a good idea of what sound to expect.
One I like is the Invidia Gemini, new it's around $900 and assuming used would be $500 and under. The S-Tune is alright too (these are the more quiet exhausts).
I'm not a fan of HKS Replicas after seeing some up front, looking at the quality of the welds and how prone they are to rust. If your budget is within that range though of a replica, and you had the choice of replica exhaust vs modifying your current setup, I would go to the replica.
