Catalytic Converter Question
Hey guys,
First post on this thread and a noob to the forum.
Long story short is my cats have failed and I dont know if I should get stock used cats or get something else like Berk HFC.
Money is kind of tight right now so I need some advice on which road I should take.
Also this will be going on a stock 2003 350z exhaust because the previous owner decided to weld the stock cats onto a cheap aftermarket exhaust.
Thanks guys
-Chris

Chris, being that you're in California, be wary of trying to get HFCs past the visual inspection when going in for bi-annual smog.
You might, you might not pass because technically speaking aftermarket cats are NOT legal unless certified by CARB. To my present knowledge, no high flow units are legal for substitution. (I welcome anyone pointing me in the direction of any that ARE exempted by CARB.)
And yes, that's regardless of sniffer results. There was another forum member recently who got a refuse-to-test due to aftermarket plenum spacer even though it was likely he would have passed the sniffer.
The main question: Is the ever-so-slight uptick in horsepower worth the hassle? (I know people who put the OEMs back in for testing then remove once done.) Only you can decide that.
Given that, I'd stick with OEM.
