Ticket for having a modified exhaust
Has anybody ever got a ticket for a modified exhaust?
If so,
What kind of exhaust do you have?
I'm just wondering, because I'm gonna get new exhaust soon and I don't want my Z to stick out any more than it already does.
Thanks.

I have been pulled over once because my exhaust was "too loud"
Nismo w/ RT Cats...
It was in the middle of no where town going to a Z meet actually...
He asked me to put it in neutral and rev the motor... I did and then he said "hmm thats not that loud" and let me go...

not in the z, as my z has the stock exhaust.
but in my old car, i had a greddy cat back. i was pulled over and given a fix-it ticket for a modified exhaust like you got. my exhaust was supposedly "50 state legal" so i have a little sticker/badge stating that it was 50 state legal. so after i got the fix-it tix, i brought the ticket and my 50 state legal sticker and showed it to a police officer and he signed it off. i brought the signed ticket to the court house and paid my $10 and that was it.
hope this helps.

Ive driven past 3 cops now, drive very lightly on the throttle, one case I was in an area that YOU DO NOT SPEED. very serious, its just known you dont speed there. and I had to drive away from a stop at a light with a cop first car on the right side as I drove past.
figured I was done, no way he wasnt gonna hear me under acceleration.
oddly he didnt say a word, and thats not to say I didnt make a hell of alot of noise.
I kept my stock exhaust, and will keep my stock exhaust for that reason, if they want it fixed, I can fix it.
Its all about the mood of the cop, slow day and his wife cheated on him last night, your screwed. but if the doughnut place had fresh pastries, your fine.
*jk to all the cops out there*

Depends on what kind of ticket you're talking about- you can get a ticket for noise pollution (I believe 95 db is the limit, but not sure) or gross polluter (smog related).
I was pulled over a few months ago and given a vc 27156 (gross polluter) ticket for my cat back exhaust. After doing a ton of research and talking to numerous people I finally came to the conclusion that a catback exhaust on a newer car cannot be written up for 27156. Since our cars do not have an EGR valve it has no effect on the emissions controls on the car.
I went to the BAR referee with my exhaust untouched and passed no problem.
Unfortunately there is really no way to keep from getting pulled over again and written up for the same violation. If that happens I was told I would have to retest.

I have my silencers in now, but when I had them out I thought i was going to get pulled over for sure. Never saw a cop even look though. There are certain rpms in each gear that sound kinda quiet, so I would find those when passing a cop. I dont live in a huge city though, i think they are more strict about that in bigger places

Maybe if I keep it stock looking, like a Borla, Stillen or Nismo, I might be able to get away with it. Injen and Invidia type exhausts would stick out too much.
Thanks guys.

It's the Roaring Scream shooting from the Exhaust thats
gonna do you in.
I wouldnt worry too much about it. I see some crazy stupid a$$ looking riced out modded cars here and I'd think they are much higher profile than a Stock looking Z that sounds mean.
