Injen CAI question

I have the intake installed as a short ram as of now because i wanted to be safe about water and debris getting into the system. so a few questions
1) is there a problem with installing as a full arm? is water splashing even an issue?
2) if water and dirt is a problem, is there a shield that would prevent water from hitting the filter?
3) if i have to use as short ram....do I still need to use the heat shield? i couldnt figure out where to put the shield..

In normal driving conditions...and normal weather conditions (including heavy rain/snow) your Injen CAI will not pose a threat to your motor...
Obviously, you would'nt want to drive through flood water or other water that would end up submerging your front end (and thusly your intake..)
The shield mounts over your driver side exhaust header...open the hood and check to see where the pre-drilled holes in the INJEN shield match
up with bolts near your header...it will come to you..

I had it installed as a short RAM after seeing how dirty the filter was getting, the JWT heatshield from their pop charger wouldn't fit because the INJEN pipe is longer than the stock pipe so the shield wouldn't fit. I do have the INJEN shield that bolts to the engine but that is not the best, it might prevent radiated heat from getting to the pipe but it deosn;t keep hot air from getting in the filter.
After Dyno day I am convinced I am succking hot air as the second and third runs were worse than the first while everyone else improved in their second and third runs, so I went ahead and put the filter back in the grill area, I will just have to clean it often, as for water I did not have any problems while driving in downpores here in FL, as mentioned above if you drive into water deep enough for th efilter to be submerged you might but then again I think you would have worst problems if you are in a foot or more of water.

I drove from New Orleans to Eastern PA, and it rained at least 2/3rd of the trip. in Birmingham it POURED for HOURS... I had NO issues with water and the CAI.
It rained so much that I had to slow down because I could feel my RE040 (with 19,000 miles on them) slipping in the rear.
I am convinced that as long as you don't submerge the CAI, you'll have no issues with water.

The Injen system looks beautiful but the raw aluminum pipe needs to be addressed. We will be pulling it from a local customers car and having it ceramic coated. This will not only resemble polished aluminum, but it will also insulate the tube from the radiated heat. With ceramic coated headers the radiated heat is already much lower and the heavy heat shield, provided with the Injen kit, is not required, and considering the weight, not desired anyways. Although, with stock exhaust manifolds, the heat shield could also be coated. I would suggest a black "heat barrier" on the bottom side. It will reflect heat away from the shield. Of course a ceramic coating could also be applied on both sides to achieve the same results.

I did a test with the Injen setup as a CAI and then as a short ram. I did this while at the local 1/4 mile drap strip on the same day. After the results I would strongly recommend that no one use the Injen as a short ram setup if performance is wanted because my 1/4 mile times were consistently 0.6 seconds slower with the Injen setup as a short ram vs a true CAI. I feel that if you use the Injen as a short ram setup you need a different air filter, one that is open in front and cone shaped to pull air into the intake. The Injen air filter is designed to be setup as a true CAI and not a short ram. Also a heat shield will help to prevent as much hot air being sucked in. Some people have purchased both the Injen CAI and the JWT popcharger using the Injen piping for either a short ram or CAI and using the JWT filter and or heat shield.
