Jwt/home Depot Pop Charger Part 2 Pics
After making a air box for my JWT popcharger, I wanted to get more cold air, so heres my 2nd homedepot mod air induction to the popcharger, I will shoot the scoop flat black and you will never see it, after a hard drive I notice the heat shields over the filter were warm not hot, this mod works great all the ducting and scoop is ice cold after a ride meaning it works.
I actually think thats a good idea. A lot of people were dissapointed with the results of a CAI because the longer tubing canceled out the gains of the colder air. Thats why most people agree that the popcharger is the way to go. But in your setup, you are using the shorter tubing of the popcharger but still trying to get it extra cold air from down low. Also, this has no risk of water getting in the intake because there is a break between the cold air part and the actual intake.
That being said, I don't know about the actual materials used. It just looks like it would be loud as hell when you drive and make a ton of wind noise and rattling etc. But I could be wrong about that. How does it sound when you drive it? Do you feel any kind of power difference from the extra cold air? If this idea works, maybe something similar would be manufactured but with more conventional materials and a little cleaner install. But overall I like the idea....seems like it might work...good job!

yeah it was just a rough install , wanted to test theory before quality, there was someone else in here who had a nice set up, but if you were to shoot the scoop flat black it would be barely noticeable , and no wind noise.

I think you be better off leaving that part of the airduct open mainly because that is a high flow area. Any partial obstruction will disrupt airflow. Try creating a secondary airduct instead and run it behind the bumper, under the driver side headlight. If you remove the bumper you will see what I mean. Here's how I did mine:

.. EnjoyI like Big Ern's idea on the aluminum sheath enclosing the filter. I might try that..
I had a setup like this for my old Civ! I always felt that the car was faster, although it might've been more of a placebo effect. I tell you though, you really get a sense of accomplishment when you're finished with a true DIY like this
